Two days later, an even bigger bombshell hit. 

An anonymous package arrived at the compliance office at my father’s firm. Inside was footage from hidden cameras. 

Azura’s mother’s voice, cold and gleeful, confessed, “That hag 

is finally dead. Don’t worry, I slipped the medicine in unnoticed. Autopsy won’t detect it, it’s just a stroke.” 

With such undeniable proof, my father couldn’t argue. 

Adultery, conspiracy with a mistress to murder his spouse, this wasn’t moral transgression; it was criminal. 

I watched from a distance as they took him away. 

His back hunched, years aged him instantly, the prestige of a great lawyer gone. 

His eyes met mine, full of hatred, remorse, and perhaps more, 

but I looked away. 

Rinaldo wasn’t spared either. 

Niccolo unearthed even deeper evidence: Azura, using 

Rinaldo’s influence, had accepted kickbacks and orchestrated massive fraud and illegal fundraising. 

Rinaldo had known and even condoned it. 

More evidence was posted online. 

The few who had sympathized with Azura as a “tragically lovesick girl” vanished.

Azura was taken into custody; the sums involved were enormous, the crimes severe. 

The internet erupted, waves of outrage demanding justice. 

Niccolo draped an arm around my shoulders, pointing to the images of the once–proud couple, now humiliated, and asked, “Now? Feeling satisfied?” 

I looked at Rinaldo’s angry face and Azura’s tear–streaked, ruined makeup, and slowly nodded. 

“Yes. A little.” 

But it wasn’t enough. 

Far from it. 

Rinaldo and Azura were held in interrogation. 

At first, they blamed each other. 

But as the police presented more and more airtight evidence, especially Azura’s illegal fundraising implicating Rinaldo, he completely lost it. 

During a brief meeting with lawyers present, they exploded. 

Across the table, Rinaldo’s eyes bloodshot, he yelled at Azura, “Azura! You curse! You jinx! I was crazy to believe your lies!” 

“If it weren’t for your greed and your secret dealings, would I 

have come this far? It’s all your fault!” 

Azura, trembling with fear, lifted her head. 

Tears streaked her cheeks, and her face burned with fury. “Blame me? Rinaldo, have you no shame? If you hadn’t approved it, would I have been involved in Nola’s surgery? If you hadn’t wanted me, would you have even let me intern here?!” 

“Stop pretending! Those bribes, that dirty money, you took it too! And now that it’s all exposed, you’re pinning it on me?” 

“And Nerissa! You couldn’t keep her! Useless! Can’t even handle a woman!” 

“Shut up!” Rinaldo snapped, slamming to his feet, lunging to 

strike her. 

Police and lawyers intervened immediately. 

The two had dropped all pretense, leaving only bitter insults 

and accusations. 

“You and your mother are both disgusting! Bloodsuckers!” 

“You think you’re innocent? Your hands are just as stained! Nola’s life was in your hands!”
