The Invitation Said Happy Birthday To His Daughter With Another Woman Chapter 02

“Julian is great. He’s been the top salesperson for years, with a base salary of $20,000 and commissions that are off the charts.”

“He makes good money and treats his wife so well. He’s truly a rare find.”

I finally learned that the “salary” he told me about was actually just his base pay.

His commissions were used to support his other family.

Brooke Harrison’s face was radiant with a smile:

“Everyone is so happy.”

Someone else added enviously:

“Time flies. It feels like just yesterday we were at your wedding six years ago, and now you’ve already had a child.”

So, they had even held a grand wedding! When Julian and I married, we just had a simple ceremony back at Oak Creek Farm.

He hadn’t invited any of his colleagues.

I stood in the crowd, slowly listening to the dark secrets of my husband.

A female colleague took Brooke’s arm, seeking advice:

“Brooke, you really know how to manage a man. Tell me, how do you get Julian to be so loyal and treat you so well?” I felt a surge of curiosity myself and stole a glance at Brooke.

Her smile was full of the grace of a happy woman, showing none of the stress of daily life.

“It’s because Julian is naturally a good man. I’m lucky to have found him.”

“Couples need to understand each other. If you’re afraid of him straying, keep the finances in your hands.”

“Julian gives his whole paycheck to me; he only keeps $1,000 for gas and pocket money.”

“Every year, his bonus goes toward buying me luxury jewelry. A man’s heart is where his money is!” My shattered heart took another hit.

His annual bonus went to Brooke’s jewelry? Then what was he buying for me? Emotions surged like a tsunami, rising to my throat.

They were chatting enthusiastically, never noticing that I was standing there like an iceberg—silent, out of place, and frozen.

Brooke’s phone rang.

She smiled and said, “It’s Julian.”

As she spoke, she casually placed the baby in my arms:

“Could you hold her for a second?” I was stunned.

The infant, soft as a cloud, lay quietly in my arms.

She opened her bright, sparkling eyes, neither crying nor fussing.

I looked at her with a tangle of emotions.

Even though I was on the verge of collapsing several times, looking at this soft little thing,

I managed to suppress my feelings.

Brooke was right next to me, and Julian’s voice came clearly through the phone:

“Babe, you just finished your recovery period; don’t overwork yourself.”

“I’ve picked up my parents. The traffic is a bit heavy, so don’t worry, okay?” Brooke replied considerately:

“I’m not tired. Drive slowly and don’t rush.”

When she hung up, it drew more envy from the group.

“You two are so in love. He texts you every hour at the office.”

“You’ve been together all these years, and your spark hasn’t faded at all; it’s actually getting stronger.”

“It’s like Julian is afraid you’ll run away. He calls you every chance he gets.”

“Brooke, you really found a good one. Even if every man in the world cheated, Julian never would!” I had thought Julian was so devoted to me because he called and texted every day.

Even though the calls were short, usually under a minute,

I never suspected him of having a double life.

Work, family, and our son occupied every second of my time.

He was busy with work too, which is why I thought his calls were always brief.

I never imagined he was sharing every detail of his life with another woman.
