She Called It A Joke I Called It Revenge And Let Them Both Burn Chapter 02

Lexi’s livestream had gone completely viral.

The viewer count surged from a few thousand to over a hundred thousand, with new people pouring in every second.

Staring at the skyrocketing follower count, she couldn’t hide the smirk on her face.

The screen was a blur of comments, the audience jumping on the drama like vultures:

[Lexi is the GOAT! Exposing her own circle for the truth! Subscribed!]

[This Seraphina girl looks decent, but her heart is black as coal!]

[Industrial grease and rotten seafood? Even the Devil would find that hard to swallow!]

[Lmao, the better it tastes, the faster you die.]

[Blacklist The Gilded Sage forever! Shut them down!]

Mrs. Gable was sweating profusely, looking at me like I was her only lifeline, her eyes full of silent pleading:

“Chef Vance, please explain this to everyone! Tell them it’s a misunderstanding, or The Gilded Sage is finished!”

She was a key employee I had personally recruited for Julian Sterling, a veteran with twenty years in the industry.

If these allegations stuck, not only would the restaurant be ruined, but her professional reputation would be permanently stained.

Who would ever hire her again?

I considered it and took a step forward. Just as I was about to speak, Julian emerged from one of the private booths.

He quickly reached my side and grabbed my forearm firmly.

Leaning in, his warm breath brushed against my ear, his voice low and commanding:

“Lexi is just being her usual blunt self, she loves the attention. She came here to help us promote; let her have her moment of fun.”

“I’ll handle this. Don’t say a word.”

My entire body went rigid.

The image of him forcing that grease down my throat flashed through my mind, and a wave of nausea hit me.

I jerked my head away and began to gag uncontrollably, my face turning as pale as paper.

Lexi, like a cat that had caught a canary, stuck her tongue out at the camera:

“See that, everyone? She’s literally sick to her stomach! She’s definitely hiding something! It means the food at The Gilded Sage is so filthy that even she finds it disgusting!”

The room erupted again, and waves of disgusted glares pierced me like needles.

Julian didn’t even look at me; he was too busy watching the smile on Lexi’s face with an indulgent look.

The overflowing tenderness and affection in his eyes were exactly the same as when he had first confessed his love to me.

I sneered inwardly.

It turned out the “Sage” in The Gilded Sage wasn’t a tribute to culinary wisdom—it was a tribute to Lexi.

When the officers arrived, they went straight to the kitchen for an inspection.

A moment later, the lead officer came out holding several unopened containers of cooking oil, frowning at Lexi.

“We’ve inspected the kitchen. The oil is properly packaged and from a legitimate supplier. Now, answer me seriously: are your claims on the livestream true?”

Lexi pouted and gave a flippant smile:

“Oh, come on, I was just joking to hype up the stream. Why is everyone so literal? You even called the cops.”

The officer was speechless. After giving her a stern warning, he began to pack up his badge to leave.

But just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, Lexi let out a small chuckle that rang clearly through the room:

“Hilarious. Do you really think they’d keep industrial grease in its original packaging? You wouldn’t recognize it once it’s swapped.”

She gave the camera a mysterious smile, and her next words blew the roof off the place:

“To be honest, it’s not just the grease. To make that signature soup addictive, they add a little dash of Fentanyl-laced…”
