She Called It A Joke I Called It Revenge And Let Them Both Burn Chapter 01

During the Memorial Day weekend, I used my expertise as a third-generation master chef of a renowned culinary family to help my boyfriend’s private bistro become the hottest spot in the city.

His “girl bestie” and influencer, Lexi Brooks, showed up uninvited, starting a livestream and claiming she was there to give the restaurant some free publicity.

As viewers flooded the stream with Super Chats, repeatedly asking for the secret behind the restaurant’s booming success, Lexi—known for her loose tongue—gave a sly smile and spoke airily into the camera:

“There’s no secret. They just use recycled bio-grease from the industrial drains.”

In my past life, I would have rushed forward immediately to cut the stream and suppress the scandal, ensuring the bistro remained unscathed.

Because of that, my boyfriend gained both fame and fortune, raking in millions.

But Lexi felt she had lost face; she went out street racing to vent her frustration, got into an altercation with some thugs, and died in a horrific car crash.

On the day of her funeral, my boyfriend tied me to Lexi’s tombstone, his eyes filled with a sinister darkness:

“Lexi was just joking, but you caused her miserable death!”

He forced me to chug dozens of gallons of industrial grease, making me bloat and die in agony.

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the exact moment Lexi was running her mouth.

I slowly withdrew my trembling hand and stood aside with a cold gaze.

I won’t stop her this time.

The restaurant is his, and the trouble is hers.

I want to see who will pay the price for her big mouth this time.

“There’s no secret. They just use recycled bio-grease from the industrial drains.”

As soon as Lexi finished speaking, the air seemed to freeze.

The customers filling every seat this holiday weekend stopped their forks in mid-air, looking at Lexi and her livestreaming phone in utter shock.

Thinking about the unusually rich flavor of the dishes they had just eaten, everyone’s expression shifted instantly.

“Recycled grease? Is she serious?!”

“No wonder it tastes so savory. They’re using that disgusting industrial trash!”

“I can’t believe I waited two hours for a table at this place. This is nauseating!”

The next second, someone slammed their cutlery down and shouted for a refund.

“Give us our money back!”

In an instant, the dining room descended into a chaotic mess of arguments and accusations.

Lexi’s livestream chat exploded, with comments scrolling at a frantic pace:

[WTF! Did I hear that right? Industrial grease?]

[Isn’t their signature Grand Truffle Consommé supposed to be world-class? They use drain oil for flavor?]

[I’m halfway through my meal and I literally want to puke…]

[Report them to the Health Department immediately! This is a biohazard!]

[Lexi is so brave for this! She’s a real one for exposing these scammers!]

In the chaos, Mrs. Gable, the floor manager, turned pale. She was the first to rush forward, her voice trembling:

“Miss Brooks, weren’t you here to help us with promotion? You’re the owner’s friend; you know we use the highest-quality oils. You can’t make jokes like that!”

The customers’ eyes locked onto Lexi as someone demanded harshly:

“Are you using recycled grease or not?”

“If this is true, we’re calling the cops!”

Under the gaze of the crowd, Lexi didn’t panic at all. Instead, she gave a lazy shrug:

“Oh my god, I was just kidding! Why is everyone getting so worked up?”

Mrs. Gable breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly apologized to the patrons, offering free drinks to calm everyone down.

But just as the customers began to settle, Lexi’s tone shifted abruptly. Her smile vanished, replaced by an expression of mock righteousness.

“Actually… it’s not just the grease.”

“To save on costs, even the seafood in the signature dishes is all spoiled, dead stock.”

A customer who had just put a spoonful of the Consommé into their mouth spat it out instantly:

“Gross!”

The manager was now in a complete panic, stammering explanations:

“That’s impossible… our ingredients are sourced fresh every morning. There is no spoiled seafood!”

Lexi, however, shoved the camera directly into my face, her voice suddenly sharp:

“What does a floor manager know? If you don’t believe me, ask Seraphina. She’s the one in charge of all the procurement!”

The entire room fell silent.

Every contemptuous gaze landed squarely on me.
