Call from the Future- My Husband Told Me My Best Friend Bared His Children Chapter 04

The day of the party, I was Mrs. Hale in name alone. Wheelchair bound. Pushed to a viewing balcony upstairs. Hidden. Unseen.

Gideon hugged me. Full of guilt. “Sorry, Seraphina. These three years, everyone thinks Serena’s my wife. Today’s the twins’ birthday. I can’t humiliate her. Trust me. I’ll set things right later.”

Serena’s voice echoed from the hallway. He dropped his arms instantly. Didn’t hesitate. Turned.

“When she brings papers for you to sign, just behave.”

I sat there like a hollow puppet. Watched Serena approach. She threw the documents in my face and slapped me.

“You call me a mistress? Do I look like one? I have everything. But you—husband. Children. Parents. Health. Even the last thing they left you. I’ll take them. One by one.”

My hand stopped mid-signature. My head snapped up. A wave of pure dread crashed through me. “What do you mean?”

She yanked the signed papers from my hand. Tossed two small boxes at my feet. “From now on, everything belongs to my children. No waste allowed. So I stopped your parents’ life support. Under Gideon’s name. Cremated them last night.”

“Here. The ashes. See? Your best friend takes care of everything.”

My brain detonated. I’d given up everything. Stopped fighting. Stopped wanting. All I had left was hoping my parents would wake up. Just to talk to me. One more time. That was my only reason to stay alive.

“Serena Whitfield. You deserve to die!”

Hatred scorched through me. I lunged at her. My hand cracked across her face. One second later, Gideon’s foot drove into my chest. My splinted bones snapped all over again.

His lashes trembled. But his hands clamped around my throat. “Seraphina. Those reporters downstairs calling Serena a whore—that was you. I told you I’d clear this up. You had to ruin today. And you put your hands on her.”

I shoved at him. Voice shattered. “Get off… it wasn’t me…”

His face went dark. He seized my wrist. Dragged me. “I don’t care if it was you. You’re going downstairs. In front of every camera. On your knees. Apologizing to Serena. You’ll admit you’re the one who climbed into your best friend’s bed. That this whole thing was you trying to climb the ladder.”

I clawed at the doorframe until my nails snapped off. “Gideon Hale. One more time. It wasn’t me. She killed my parents. I want revenge—”

He exhaled slowly. Snapped my wrist. His voice was the devil’s. “Seraphina. Who doesn’t matter. What matters is I can’t let her carry this. And you don’t need to frame anyone else to dodge the consequences.”

He dragged what was left of me out. Tossed me like a rag in front of everyone. Then took Serena’s hand. Raised their matching rings for the cameras.

“You’ve got the wrong woman. She’s the one who tried to seduce her way up.”

In front of everyone. He chose Serena. Without principle. Without hesitation. Flashbulbs seared my face. Lit up the dead emptiness in my eyes.

Then he kicked my parents’ urns aside.

Gray ash scattered across the floor. The wind swept through. Gone. Every last trace. Gone.

Bloody tears streaked down my face. This was it. The final death of hope.

Under every mocking gaze. Every sneer. Every laugh. I used the last of my strength. Ran for the window. Jumped.

I was gambling. I didn’t belong in this time. If I died, I’d go back to the right timeline. Everything would reset. I could stop my parents from taking that flight. Prevent their deaths. I could cut Gideon Hale out of my life forever. Never see him again.

If I won, good. If I lost—it didn’t matter. I already had nothing left.

As the darkness swallowed me, I thought I heard Gideon’s scream. Raw. Almost inhuman.
