Call from the Future- My Husband Told Me My Best Friend Bared His Children Chapter 03

I remembered the cold, brutal methods Gideon was capable of. Ice crawled up my spine. “Three years? What are you talking about?”

He smiled. Stroked my hair. Wove his lie without flinching. “Three years ago, your parents’ flight crashed. You had a mental breakdown. Minor. Really. Since you’re the Seraphina from back then—let’s just turn the page. You’re still Mrs. Hale.”

I thought I was calm enough. But watching him casually dismiss every atrocity, hatred still burned my eyes red.

“Then what about you and Serena? We’ve been married three years. Your kids are six. What? You can’t stop sneaking around? She’s addicted to being a mistress and you’re addicted to sleeping with them?”

His face went cold instantly. “Seraphina Grant. Watch your mouth. Name one man in this city who doesn’t have mistresses and illegitimate children everywhere. Serena is the only one I have. That’s how much I love you.”

Serena woke up then. Right in front of me, she hooked her arm through Gideon’s. Cozy. Intimate. “Seraphina. I know you hate me. But you lost your fertility a long time ago.”

Seeing the confusion on my face, she practically glowed. “Gideon felt bad I’d given him children with no status. So on your engagement day, he slipped you something. You’ll never be a mother. Even if you somehow conceive, you’ll miscarry. Every time.”

I stumbled backward. Remembered the baby Gideon had killed with his own hands from those memories. No wonder he’d been so calm back then. He’d never wanted a child from me. Not ever.

Serena covered her mouth. Laughed. Grabbed my hand like we were still friends. “You can’t have children. The Grant and Hale families need heirs. We’re best friends. My children can be yours. Don’t worry. Your fortune will definitely stay in the family.”

I listened to her self-righteous speech. Almost laughed. She was already calling the twins in from school. Shoving them at me. *Call her Godmother.*

They charged at me. One grabbed my hair. The other tore at my clothes. Kicking. Punching. Their voices dripping with undisguised malice.

“You’re not our godmother! You’re that homewrecker! Get out of our house or we’ll strip you naked and throw you in the street!”

The second they touched me, revulsion churned in my stomach. Every moment they existed reminded me. Gideon saying he loved me. Gideon hiding behind my back. Six years. With my best friend.

“Get away from me!”

I shoved them off. Serena shrieked and lunged at me. “You insane bitch! You pinched my children! Die!”

Down a staircase. Hundreds of steps. I tumbled all the way. Heard my own bones snap.

But the man who used to panic over a scraped knee just watched me. Cold. “Hurting children that small. You deserve every bit of this.”

When I woke again, Gideon was there. Like always. Holding a bowl of porridge he’d made himself. Blowing on it gently.

“Seraphina. You went too far this time. The twins can’t sleep now. So scared.” He set the bowl down. “Tomorrow’s their birthday. Transfer the Grant family fortune to them. As a birthday gift. An apology.”

My eyes went red instantly. My voice ripped raw. “Gideon Hale. That’s the last thing my parents left me.”

I hadn’t hurt those children. Not a scratch. But I had seven fractures across my whole body.

He looked at my despair. Wiped his hands. His voice went flat. “What if I told you your parents could still be saved?”

I froze. He laughed. Soft. “Seraphina. Three-year-old technology couldn’t save them. But that doesn’t mean today’s can’t.”

I bit my lip until blood ran. When the tears fell, I finally nodded.
