My Arranged Marriage Husband Was A Beast In Disguise Chapter 12

I walked out right after and drove to my dad’s house. 

My dad raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing here?” 

“Arthur and I are getting a divorce.” 

My dad went quiet. 

“You’ve been tormenting that poor boy.” 

I couldn’t even argue. 

Fine. Maybe I had. 

But I didn’t regret it. The leads were going to end up together 

anyway. 

I spent a few days at home doing nothing. Arthur still hadn’t 

signed. 

So I called up the three personal shoppers and went out again. 

Midway through our shopping spree, I ducked into the 

restroom. Came back out. 

And there he was. 

I rubbed my eyes. You had to be kidding me. 

This felt suspiciously familiar. 

I moved closer. Arthur’s voice reached me before I got to 

them. 

“Y’all were right last time. It’s my fault. I’m the one who can’t 

keep her.” 

His head was down, voice muffled. “Then… could y’all… treat 

her a little better?” 

The three of them stared at him. 

“Don’t make her unhappy.” 

“If she snaps at you, don’t take it personal. That’s just how 

she is. She’s softer than she lets on.” 

“If she orders you around, just do it. She remembers every good thing anyone ever does for her. And if she…” 

He stopped. I knew why. One more word and the tears would 

win. 

One of the guys shifted his bags to one hand. “Man, are you…” 

Arthur cracked. The drawl came flooding back. 

“I like her!” 

“I like her so damn much. I liked her from the first second I 

saw her. I like it when she yells at me, I like it when she 

smacks me around, and when she ignores me I can’t breathe.” 

“I know I don’t deserve her. I’m country, I can’t talk right, I 

ain’t good for much. But I just like her. What am I supposed to 

do?” 

Nobody said a word. Not them. Not me. 

He was the one spilling his guts. So why was I the one who couldn’t look up? 

I stepped forward and tugged his sleeve. 

“Okay, stop. People are staring.” 

I drove us home. Arthur cried in the passenger seat – ugly, hiccuping sobs he couldn’t seem to stop. 

It was annoying. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him to stop. 

He kept looping between apologizing and confessing – what he did wrong, how much he loved me, what he’d do differently, how much he loved me again. Every other sentence was so earnest it made my ears burn. 

By some miracle we made it home. Arthur was still going. 

I snapped. “Don’t you like Clara?” 

Arthur stopped mid–sentence. “Who?” 

I crossed my arms. There was an edge in my voice I didn’t recognize as jealousy until it was already out. 

“Haven’t you been texting her nonstop? Dropping the accent, new wardrobe, cologne – all of it?” 

Arthur looked genuinely lost. “I mean, yeah, but that was…” 

He cut himself off. 

His face went red – not embarrassed red, more like 

holding–his–breath red – and he mumbled, “I was asking 

her… how to make you like me.” 

I stared at him. 

“She said she grew up with you. Knows what you like better 

than anyone. So I hired her.” 

“Hired her?” 

Arthur nodded and pulled up his phone. Payment history. 

Lord. 

Transaction after transaction. The total had cleared six 

figures. 

The comments detonated. 

[WAIT. The FL charges money??] 

[LMAOOO the FL is literally scamming the MC for consulting 

fees.] 

[So EVERY change the MC made was for the villainess??] 

[Case closed – he never cheated. He was just secretly trying to 

glow up for his wife.] 

I stared at the screen and couldn’t find a single word. 

Arthur watched me carefully. “Darlin‘, are you mad? I won’t 

talk to her anymore. I’ll ask for the money back—” 

I cut him off. “The cologne.” 

Arthur’s ears went red. “I read online that wives like it when 

their husband smells good. But I didn’t know what to buy, so 

I… I asked those three pretty boys to help me pick one.” 

“…My personal shoppers? You asked them?” 

Arthur nodded, miserable. “I paid ‘em five hundred each. They picked the cologne, the clothes, even taught me how to walk.” 

“They said you were into that whole Golden Retriever energy. I 

didn’t know what that was, so I just… tried to learn it.” 

He stood up and demonstrated. Two steps. 

How do I put this? He walked like a small–town bouncer trying 

to seduce a librarian. 

The comments lost it. 

[HELP I’M ON THE FLOOR.] 

[Five hundred dollars for THAT??] 

[Those personal shoppers saw this man coming from a mile away.] 

A laugh tore out of me before I could stop it. 

Arthur’s whole face lit up. 

“Darlin‘, you laughed! You’re not mad anymore, right?”
