My Arranged Marriage Husband Was A Beast In Disguise Chapter 04

Arthur left. The comments vanished with him.

But that comment about revenge stayed with me. Better safe than sorry.

The logic was simple. If Arthur was the male lead, the female lead wasn’t me.

So as long as I — the villainess — didn’t push too hard or get in the way of the main couple, I could probably make it to the finale. Right?

Arthur was back before long. A whole spread was on the table, still steaming.

Normally I ate alone and left the mess for him. But the comments were still rattling around in my skull.

I sat there for a second, then forced out words I’d never said before. “Thanks. For cooking.”

Arthur’s hand froze with the ladle still in it. He stared at me like I’d sprouted a second head.

“No, no, I didn’t do anything. You’re the one who worked hard, darlin’ — staring at that screen all afternoon must’ve been exhausting, right?”

I had no idea how to respond to that, so I just nodded. Nodding was always safe.

The comments were not impressed.

[I’ve seen pushovers, but this man’s in a league of his own.]

[The MC’s so pathetic it hurts. He tries SO hard, and she still treats him like furniture.]

[I give up. Just pair the villainess with some psycho CEO and leave this sweet man ALONE.]

After dinner, Arthur disappeared into the study for a video call. Some business thing.

I sat there for a minute. Then, before I could overthink it, I paused my show, poured a glass of water, and brought it upstairs.

Arthur took the glass like I’d handed him a holy relic.

“Darlin’, you… brought me water?”

I shrugged. “Yeah. Drink it.”

Arthur stared into the glass. His voice sank into a mutter. “What’s… in this? Are you trying to poison me so you can marry someone else?”

I heard every word. “…It’s just water!”

He took a sip and somehow panicked harder.

“Then… is this some kinda rich-people water?”

“I don’t deserve this. I’ll just go drink tap water.”

“It’s regular bottled water.”

Arthur looked at me, and his eyes went red. When he spoke, his voice cracked.

“Why are you being so nice to me? Are you… are you gonna leave me tomorrow? Is this my last meal or somethin’?”

I grabbed the glass out of his hands. “Fine. Don’t drink it then!”

Arthur exhaled. His shoulders actually loosened in relief, and a small smile crept onto his face.

“Yeah, that’s more like it. Keep yellin’ at me. When you’re nice, it scares the hell outta me.”

The comments drifted by.

[He’s comfortable now.]

[His sense of security is BACK lmao.]

[?? Spoiler request — is the MC secretly a masochist??]

[I’M DYING, his inner monologue is literally “this water’s too pure for me, let me go drink from the garden hose to even it out.”]
