Fled Believing She Was Scorned, Crowned as Everyone’s Only Love Chapter 07

Julian didn’t say a word. He turned and headed upstairs.

He broke the lock and rushed straight into my room.

Mom followed behind him, scolding quietly, “This is Romy’s room. How can you just go in without knocking?”

The next second, she saw the empty desk and empty closet.

“Ah!” Mom cried out, panicked. “What’s going on? Why did Romy take all her clothes?”

Julian’s eyes swept the room. “Her suitcase is gone. Her passport too.”

Mom pulled a large envelope from the safe, her hands trembling. “It’s the transfer paperwork for all the

assets under her name. She gave everything back to the Hartwell family.”

Every item on the asset list was clearly documented.

Savings, funds, stocks, real estate, cars.

Milo couldn’t believe it. “What happened? Who hurt her?”.

Sloane frowned. “Why would Romy leave? What exactly did you say to her?”

No one answered her.

Mom suddenly looked up. “Last night, I thought I heard something.”

“Could she have heard us talking? Did she misunderstand what we meant?”

Mom gripped the edge of the desk, her voice shaking.

“We’ve known for a long time that Romy isn’t the Hartwell family’s daughter.”

“When she was twelve, her blood type didn’t match during a physical. Your father and I did a paternity test.”

“But we were afraid she’d overthink it, afraid she wouldn’t be happy in the Hartwell family, so we kept it from her.”

She murmured, “We’ve always known how she feels about Declan.”

“Since she was fifteen, whenever Declan was home, her eyes followed him everywhere. She didn’t know, but how could we not see it? We’re her parents.”

“We didn’t want her to be upset. We couldn’t bear to let her suffer like that. That’s why we wanted to lay it all out at the ball.”

“If she likes Declan, she can be the Hartwell family’s daughter-in-law. If she doesn’t, she’s still our daughter.”

She sobbed. “Was Mommy’s little baby hurt?”

Julian opened the desk and pulled out a familiar silver key.

After a moment of thought, he said quietly, “I know how to bring Romy back.”
