His Ex Wore My Ring, So I Married His Rival Instead Chapter 02

The room fell silent.

Brandon’s mother, Linda Miller, stormed over and shoved me aside, furious. “Are you out of your mind? How dare you hit my son!”

I turned to her with a cold smile. “Where were you when Katie called Vanessa her future sister-in-law, had her ride in the bridal limo, and put my wedding ring on her finger? But I slap your son once, and suddenly you come running? Which one of us is out of her mind?”

For a moment, she had no answer. Then she lifted her chin and shouted, “How dare you talk to me like that! Katie already told you she made a mistake. If you’re this petty, how are you supposed to be her sister-in-law?”

The relatives around us immediately rose from their seats, pointing at me.

“She’s hitting Brandon before the ceremony’s even over! Imagine what she’ll be like once they’re married!”

“You Millers need to put a daughter-in-law like that in her place, or she’ll tear the whole family apart!”

I ignored them and threw my veil and bouquet onto the floor.

“If Katie wants Vanessa as her sister-in-law so badly, let Vanessa marry him. I’m done.”

I started toward the exit.

Only then did Brandon snap out of his shock and grab my wrist. His fingers dug into my skin.

“Olivia, you’re calling off the wedding over a few comments and a ring?”

I nodded and looked back at him. “What else am I supposed to do? Wait for Katie to make another ‘mistake’ tonight and put Vanessa in my bridal suite?”

He froze for a moment, then tightened his grip. “Apologize to Vanessa right now, and I’ll pretend none of this happened.”

“Brandon, just let her leave!” Katie stomped her foot. “Then you and Vanessa can get back together and get married right here!”

Vanessa stepped closer at that and tugged at Brandon’s sleeve, her voice choked with tears.

“Brandon, don’t listen to Katie. Olivia just lost her temper. Say something sweet to her, and she’ll calm down.”

“Why should he sweet-talk her?” Before Brandon could respond, Linda pointed an accusing finger at me. “My son is a manager at the largest financial firm in Westbridge! I hear he’s getting promoted to director this year!”

“He’s the man of the house! He’s a grown man. Why should he have to grovel to a woman? Katie’s right. Brandon could have any woman he wanted. If she wants to get the hell out, let her!”

Bennett Financial Group was the largest financial firm in Westbridge.

I almost laughed.

She had no idea it was my father’s company. Without me, Brandon wouldn’t even have gotten an interview.

But none of that mattered anymore.

I let out a humorless laugh and tried to pull my wrist free. “Brandon, I’m not apologizing, and I have no interest in being part of your family. Let go.”

He stared at me, then let out a short laugh. “Olivia, enough with the jealousy. Keep making a scene, and you can forget about giving my mother that welcome toast.”

I laughed in disbelief. His threats meant nothing to me.

Just then, my phone vibrated several times. I glanced down and saw messages from my father.

Dad: [This is outrageous! They really treated you like that?]

Dad: [Don’t be scared, sweetheart. We’re on our way!]

Then Alexander sent me his location and a reply.

Alexander replied: [Wait for me. I’ll be there any minute.]

Brandon caught a glimpse of Alexander’s profile picture. I’d always been honest with him about Alexander pursuing me for a long time.

Panic flickered across his face. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Before he could finish, Vanessa covered her mouth and retched.

Her face went pale. She grabbed Brandon’s hand just as he was about to reach for me, swaying as she struggled to speak to him.

Katie’s eyes widened with excitement.

“Vanessa, are you pregnant?”
