She Wanted My Body for Three Days? Fine, She Can Keep It Forever! Chapter 03

After a moment’s thought, I started looking through Chloe’s contacts.

She hadn’t taken any precautions. She knew I respected people’s privacy and wouldn’t go snooping through her messages.

She was right about that. In my previous life, the only chat I’d opened after the swap was the one with my own account, which Chloe was using. I hadn’t contacted anyone else. I’d spent three days lounging around her house like I was on vacation, only to return and find my life in ruins.

I shook my head and focused on finding anything about the ring.

Instead, I discovered that Chloe’s account was in my company group chat.

I raised an eyebrow. She didn’t work there. Why was she in the chat?

I scrolled back until I found who’d added her.

It was my biggest rival at work. We’d both been up for the last promotion, and I’d gotten it.

He’d added her right after losing out to me.

Apparently, she’d been planning to sabotage me even then.

While I was reading the chat history, a new message appeared. I assumed it was an announcement, but within a minute, messages were flooding in.

I scrolled down. The message that had started it all had come from “Nora.”

Nora: [@Manager, you think you’d be where you are without me? Give me a raise, or I’ll tell everyone about your affair!]

Before anyone could respond, Chloe went after everyone else.

Nora: [@ExecutiveAssistant, you wouldn’t want everyone finding out you’re sleeping with the CEO, would you?]

Nora: [@HR, you’ve hired so many of your relatives that this place might as well be your family business.]

Nora: [@Finance, those discrepancies in the reports are from the kickbacks you’ve been taking. Stop playing innocent. You’re going to jail!]

She made up accusations about everyone in the company, from senior management all the way down to the security guard at the front entrance.

No wonder the guards had treated me so badly when I’d returned to the office in my previous life. They’d thrown my belongings outside, and no one had paid me any attention after that.

I watched without sympathy as Chloe lashed out in the chat, trading insults with everyone.

I’d never seen management and staff so united.

Even with the chat in chaos, she refused to stop. She kept tagging everyone and throwing insults at them.

I opened a private chat with the CEO.

Chloe: [Mr. Bennett, you should check the company group chat. Someone’s spreading malicious rumors. I think you need to step in.]

Mr. Bennett: [What’s going on?]

Chloe: [I’m sorry, I’m not sure what’s going on either. The chat’s gotten completely out of control, so I thought I should let you know right away.]

Mr. Bennett: [Thanks for letting me know. I owe you one.]

I laughed to myself. Chloe had only joined the chat to watch me get humiliated, and now she was the one getting thanked.

Honestly, I hadn’t understood why she hated me so much.

She hadn’t told me until just before I died. She envied my determination and looked down on my background. Someone who’d started with as little as I had was supposed to stay at the bottom, not work her way up to Chloe’s level.

She also envied me for having a faithful boyfriend. She’d gotten Ethan’s number to break us up, but the more she pursued him, the more she wanted him for herself.

That was what had led to the vicious sabotage she’d called her “revenge.”

I took a deep breath and stopped dwelling on it.

Whatever she did now, she’d have to live with the consequences. They weren’t my problem anymore.

The chaos finally ended when the CEO restricted who could post in the chat.

Mr. Bennett: [Nora, you’re fired! You’ve made defamatory accusations about your coworkers. Expect to be sued.]

Nora: [Then fire me! You think I’m scared of you?]

I could practically see Chloe’s smug expression.

It was time to check in with her. If I went too long without contacting her, she’d get suspicious.

Chloe: [How are you settling in? Is everything okay at work? If there’s anything you’re unsure about, just ask.]

Nora: [Everything’s fine, Nora. Don’t worry. I promise I won’t cause any trouble.]

Chloe: [I’m glad you’re settling in. Everyone at work is really easy to get along with.]

Nora: [Okay. Be careful around my parents and brother, though. They’re difficult. Just ignore them.]

As far as I could tell, she was the difficult one.

I rolled my eyes and wrapped up the conversation after a few more pleasantries. I had no interest in keeping up this fake little act any longer.
