The Stupid Wife’s Last Stand Chapter 03

The Stupid Wife’s Last Stand Chapter 03

After finishing the paperwork, I brought the divorce papers back to the estate.

From the hallway, I heard laughter.

Dante had brought Mia home.

“Eating fish is good for the baby’s brain, right?”

“Don’t worry. You have that Ivy League pedigree. Good genes. The child won’t be stupid.”

Standing in the house where I had lived for ten years, I felt like a stranger.

When Mia saw me, she stood up.

“Autumn, you’re back.”

She looked confident now, polished and glowing, nothing like the skinny girl from the projects I had met years ago.

Back then, she had received her Harvard acceptance.

But her degenerate father had tried to sell her to a pimp. After he tore up her acceptance letter, she reached out to everyone she could.

Only I answered.

A benefactor she had never even met.

I went to her without hesitation. I only wanted to save her.

I did save her, but her father hit me with a baseball bat for it.

Dante never liked her after that. He said, “You should’ve called the police instead of throwing yourself into danger.”

But later, he started inviting her to dinner.

He even told me, “She’s a genius. Thank God you saved her.”

Now, they stood there side by side.

Perfect together.

“Don’t worry, Autumn. I won’t stay long,” Mia said, taking my hand. “It’s just that after the scan, the doctor said I’m underweight. Dante insisted I eat here.”

Confused, I pulled my hand free.

“Am I the one losing my mind, or is this entire house insane? Do you think having a baby with a married man is something to parade around?”

Mia looked at Dante, wounded. “No… I…”

Her brows drew together as if she might cry.

Dante stepped in front of her.

“Autumn, I told you. I need an intelligent heir. If you can’t understand that, then accept it. Listen to me like you used to.”

No.

You told me that when something hurt, I was supposed to leave.

I shoved the divorce papers into his hands and stared straight at him.

“It’s over.”

Dante frowned. “I’m not signing this. Mia isn’t going to threaten your life here. What exactly is the problem?”

I ignored him, slapped the papers down on the table, and went upstairs.

Dante gave a low, dismissive laugh, then turned back to tending to Mia.

Mia followed me upstairs.

“Autumn, you helped me. I’ve never wanted to take your place. Dante chose me because he trusts me. Don’t overthink it.”

“Go away!”

I shut the bedroom door.

She squeezed her way in.

Her tone changed almost instantly.

“You really are naive. The life you have is what most people can only dream about.”

“From the moment I met Dante, I knew the two of you weren’t right for each other. You don’t understand his world. You can’t help him shoulder the burden. Because of you, he still has to deal with pressure from the family.”

“It was only a matter of time before he got rid of you.”

“Oh, and one more thing. Do you even know how babies are made? Want to watch us next time?”

She pulled up a video of the two of them together.

Rage surged through me. I shoved her hard. “That’s disgusting. You’re sick.”

She smiled. “You’re so easy to set off, aren’t you?”

Then she clutched her stomach and shrieked, “Dante! My stomach! Autumn, why would you do that?”
