He Chose Her, So I Refused to Become His Luna Chapter 09

Six months later, I return to Everwood Pack to finalize the transfer of the Alpha House and settle the

remaining payments.

My parents want to come with me, but I refuse.

Some things have to be brought to an end by my own hand.

Ms. Hunter meets me at the Pack Hall in Everwood Pack.

When I arrive, Nathan is already there with William, Marcus, and Henry.

It has been six months since I last saw them.

They don’t look much different, yet somehow, they seem completely changed.

The moment William sees me, he instinctively takes a step toward me.

Then Oreo lets out a small meow from his carrier, and William immediately stops..

“Is he doing okay?”

“He’s doing fine.”

I don’t say anything else and walk straight into the hall.

The paperwork is much simpler than I expect.

According to the agreement, Nathan transfers back the portion of the down payment and renovation costs

that originally belonged to me. He even transfers an additional sum on top of that.

I send it straight back in front of him.

“Just follow the agreement.”

“That’s compensation.”

“I don’t need it.”

Nathan grips his pen, but for a long time, he doesn’t sign.

“Rebecca, do you really have to make everything between us this clear–cut?”

I look up at him.

“If we don’t make things clear, are we supposed to keep dragging this out?”

His face turns pale.

In the end, he lowers his head and signs the agreement.

Once everything is settled, the four of them follow me all the way outside.

William is the first to speak.

“What happened with Oreo was my fault. At the time, I thought boarding him for a few days wouldn’t be a big

deal.”

“Then I found out he stopped eating and drinking at the vet hospital, and I realized…”

“You didn’t realize.”

I cut him off.

“Because even the boarding fees after those first three days were paid by me.”

William’s lips tremble, but in the end, he has nothing to say.

Marcus takes out a paper bag.

Inside is a newly made cloud lamp and a pair of identical baby socks.

“I couldn’t find the originals, so I had the Beta make replacements based on the photos.”

I don’t reach for them.

“Marcus, you knew exactly what those things were when you threw them away.”

“The fact that you couldn’t find them later wasn’t an accident. It was the consequence of choosing to throw them away.”

His hand slowly drops to his side.

Henry is standing behind him.

“We all promised we’d come get you that day. I should have remembered.”

I look at him calmly.

“It’s not that you should have remembered. I called all four of you so many times.”

“But not one of you was willing to stop what you were doing and ask whether something had happened to

me.”

Henry lowers his head, his eyes red.

Finally, there is only Nathan.

He reaches into his pocket and takes out the Luna ring.

It is the same ring I asked the nurse to throw away before I left the hospital.

I don’t know when he found it.

The band has been polished until it shines almost painfully in the sunlight.

“The Alpha House doesn’t have any of Jasmine’s things anymore. Your access has been restored too.”

“I put everything you and Oreo liked back where it used to be.”

His voice is hoarse, “Rebecca, can we start over?”

I look at him, and suddenly, I remember ten years ago.

Back then, Nathan waits for me outside the training grounds for two whole hours because I casually mention

that I forget to bring an umbrella.

That is when I convince myself that no matter what happens, he will always come looking for me.

But when I truly need him the most, he keeps choosing to go to someone else.

“Nathan, the day I miscarried, you asked me to sign a forgiveness agreement for Jasmine.”

“The night I had a fever, you stayed with her and made her hot soup.”

“After she moved into the Alpha House, you threw away our baby’s things.”

“And when I was lying in the Pack hospital bleeding heavily, all four of you were with her, taking care of a cut that was less than an inch long.”

I look at the Luna ring in his hand.

“You want to start over now because you’re finally willing to choose me.”

“But I don’t want it anymore.”

The light in Nathan’s eyes slowly fades.

He instinctively reaches for me, but stops before his hand can touch me.

“What were those ten years supposed to mean, then?”

I hold Oreo tighter against my chest and answer calmly.

“They mean I chose the wrong person.”

Then I turn and walk toward the parking lot.

No one follows me.

This time, they finally learn to respect my choice.

Too bad they learn it only after I no longer need them.
