He Chose Her, So I Refused to Become His Luna Chapter 01

Three days after Jasmine causes me to lose my child, my Alpha mate, Nathan, comes to the Pack hospital with three Alpha heirs I have known since childhood.

They don’t bring flowers.

They bring me a settlement agreement from Jasmine instead.

William says she was drunk that night and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake.

Marcus says Jasmine’s brother, Caleb Parker, the future Beta, was lost years ago while saving their lives. They can’t stand by and watch her face the Pack’s harshest punishment over this.

Then Henry takes the complaint I’ve prepared to submit to the Elder Council from my hands and tries to reason with me.

“You’ll have more children.”

Finally, Nathan places a pen beside my pillow.

“Sign it.”

“Our Bonding Ceremony is still happening as planned. You’ll still become my Luna.”

I look at the man I’ve loved for ten years.

He knows perfectly well that when Jasmine’s car came straight at me that night, the brake lights never came on.

Not once.

And yet, they still choose to stand by her.

I don’t explain myself again. I simply turn to the last page and sign my name.

The moment I put down the pen, all four of them visibly relax.

Nathan reaches for me, but I turn my face away.

“I signed the agreement. But the Bonding Ceremony is canceled.”

I slide the document back toward him, my voice so calm that it sounds unfamiliar even to me.

“If you owe Jasmine’s brother a life, then go repay it yourselves.”

The room falls silent.

Nathan’s brows draw together.

“Don’t say things like that just because you’re hurting right now.”

“The ceremony is in ten days. The guest list, hotel, and venue are all booked. Everything has already been arranged.”

I take off my engagement ring and place it in front of him.

Nathan doesn’t reach for it.

William’s expression darkens.

“Jasmine knows she was wrong.”

“She grew up with her brother protecting her. After Caleb was lost, she’s never really been herself.”

“Do you really have to see her locked away before you’ll consider this fair?”

I look up at him.

“So she lost her brother, and that means my child had to be taken from me?”

“That’s not what I meant.”

William looks away.

“But it’s already happened. Jasmine is still here. She has to keep going, and so do you. You need to move on.”

His words make it even harder for me to accept what has happened.

Suddenly, I remember the day of the accident.

William is the first one to reach the Pack hospital.

At the time, I’m lying in the emergency room, badly injured. He grips my hand tightly and keeps telling me that whoever caused the accident will have to answer for it.

It has only been three days.

And he’s already asking me to let it go.

Just then, Nathan’s phone rings.

He glances at the screen, and his expression changes immediately.

“Lock the door. Don’t go outside. We’re on our way.”

The moment the call ends, Marcus grabs his jacket.

“The news is out. Someone caused trouble at Jasmine’s front gate, and people are outside the Pack hospital accusing her of what happened.”

The four of them immediately head for the door.

I instinctively call after Nathan.

“The Pack doctor said I might run a fever tonight. I need someone to stay with me.”

Nathan stops at the doorway and looks back.

My face is still pale, and my body is weak after everything I’ve been through.

But after a few seconds, he simply reaches over and presses the call button beside my bed.

“The nurse is right outside. I’ll come back when I’m done handling this.”

The hospital door slowly closes in front of me.

From the moment he gets the call to the moment all four men leave, less than a minute passes.

The nurse comes in shortly afterward to check my temperature.

102 degrees Fahrenheit.

She frowns and tells me to have a family member bring me some light food and a change of clothes.

I text Nathan.

Half an hour passes. No reply.

I send the same message to William, Marcus, and Henry.

Not one of them answers.

In the end, it’s the nurse who buys me a bowl of chicken soup before her shift ends.

By midnight, I’m shivering with fever.

My wolf is still too weak to recover fully.

I’m drifting in and out of sleep when my phone lights up beside my pillow.

It’s a new post from Jasmine.

In the photo, the four men are sitting around her dining table, surrounded by a spread of hot food.

There’s only one caption beneath it.

[No matter what happens, I’m lucky to have you guys.]

I stare at the picture for a long time.

Back when I used to come down with a fever after getting caught in the rain, these four men would surround me just like this.

They would eat with me. Stay by my side. Make sure I recovered.

They used to tell me this was something only I got.

Apparently, being the only one never meant I was irreplaceable.

It only meant there hadn’t been anyone who needed them more than I did.

The next morning, Nathan finally texts me.

[Jasmine kept having nightmares last night, so I stayed with her. You have the Pack doctor and the nurses there. You’ll be fine.]

I stare at the two sentences.

I don’t reply.

Instead, I call Grace, the elder in charge of our Bonding Ceremony.

When she hears what I want, she goes silent for a moment.

“Rebecca, Alpha Nathan personally confirmed the ceremony details with me half an hour ago. He said everything is still going ahead as planned.”

I stare at the pale morning light outside the window and slowly curl my fingers into my palm.

“I don’t want the deposit back. Cancel the venue, the dress, the guest list, and every arrangement for the ceremony.”

Grace sounds stunned, “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Nathan thinks our Bonding Ceremony is only being postponed.

But he doesn’t know the truth.

From the moment he turns and walks out of this hospital room, I’m no longer his future Luna.

And I will never be his mate again.
