He Chose Her, So I Refused to Become His Luna Chapter 04

Three days after moving into the hotel, I receive a follow–up notice from the Pack hospital.

The Pack doctor even calls me personally.

“Your test results aren’t looking good. You may need a uterine procedure tomorrow. It’s best if you have a

family member accompany you.”

I stare at the four familiar names in my contacts.

After hesitating for a long time, I hold on to the last bit of hope I have and send the message to our private

group chat, the one with all five of us.

[Follow–up appointment tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Pack doctor says I shouldn’t go alone.]

Henry is the first to reply: [I’ll come get you.]

William immediately follows: [Got it. We’ll all be there tomorrow.]

Marcus sends the hospital location directly to the group.

[Let’s meet in the hotel lobby at 1:30. Don’t be late.]

Then Nathan calls me.

“I’ll take you tomorrow. No matter what the results are, the four of us will be there.”

His voice is gentle.

For a moment, I almost hear the Nathan from before the accident again.

The man who would stay by my bedside all night when I caught a cold, who would become so anxious whenever my temperature rose that he couldn’t sleep.

I close my eyes, “Don’t break your promise.”

“I won’t.”

At 1:20 the next afternoon, I sit in the hotel lobby with my coat in my lap.

At 1:30, none of the familiar cars pull up outside.

I check my phone. There are no new messages in the group chat.

At 1:50, I call Nathan.

No answer.

I call Henry next.

The phone rings for a long time before the call disconnects automatically.

William and Marcus are the same.

Then the Pack hospital nurse calls to remind me not to miss my appointment.

I grip my phone and say softly, “My family is still on the way.”

At 2:10, the four of them still haven’t shown up.

I start calling them one by one.

Nathan’s phone is off.

William doesn’t answer.

Marcus is already on another call.

Henry hangs up on me.

Then Jasmine’s post suddenly appears on my screen.

In the photo, she’s sitting on the floor of the Alpha House, surrounded by broken glass.

There’s a small bandage on the top of her foot, and all four men are gathered around her.

The caption says only: [I accidentally broke a glass. Luckily, they all came.]

I stare at the photo for a long time.

So they haven’t disappeared.

They’ve simply gone to the person they think needs them more.

She’s a werewolf, for God’s sake. A little cut like that will heal on its own in no time.

And yet all four of them are there with her.

I finally send Nathan one more message: [Are you still coming?]

Ten minutes later, he finally replies.

[Jasmine got cut by some glass. We’re helping her get it treated first. We’ll be there soon.]

I don’t wait anymore.

I call a car and head to the Pack hospital alone.

By the time I’m already several miles down the road, Marcus finally sends a message in the group chat.

[Go ahead and get checked. We’ll come pick you up when we’re done here.]

They’ve forgotten that I never needed them to drive me home.

I needed them to stay with me through the examination.

When the nurse sees me walk in alone, she frowns, “Where’s your family?”

I look at her and gently shake my head, “I don’t have anyone.”

Halfway through the examination, a sudden, unbearable pain tears through my abdomen.

The next second, warm blood quickly soaks through my hospital gown.

The Pack doctor immediately grips my shoulder.

“Get the procedure room ready. There’s retained tissue causing the bleeding. We can’t wait any longer.”

The nurse grabs my phone.

“We need to contact your emergency contacts for consent.”

She calls all four numbers listed as my emergency contacts, one after another.

Not one of them answers. She tries again.

This time, Nathan finally picks up, but the call is disconnected after only a few seconds.

A moment later, a message appears.

[I’m helping Jasmine get her dressing changed. I’ll call you later.]

The nurse stares at the screen.

Her expression slowly hardens.

The consent form is placed in front of me.

Under Emergency Contact, four names are listed one after another.

These are the names they once fought to put there.

Nathan once told me that he was my mate and my fiancé, so no matter what happened, he should always be the first person I could turn to.

William said that if Nathan couldn’t be reached, I could call him.

Marcus and Henry insisted on being listed too.

They used to laugh and tell me that no matter what happened, at least one of the four of them would always make it to my side.

But now, not one of them does.

I pick up the pen. One by one, I cross out all four names.

Then, under Family Member’s Signature, I write my own name.

“I’ll take responsibility for myself.”

After the procedure, I sleep until late that night.

When I wake up, the window is completely dark.

There are more than forty new messages on my phone.

I don’t answer a single one.

Before the procedure, I already told my Alpha parents what happened.

They’re furious, but they immediately send their Beta to pick me up.

When my parents‘ car pulls up outside the Pack hospital, the nurse wheels me out of my room.

My phone lights up again.

Nathan has sent me a voice message, “Jasmine is settled in. We’re coming to pick you up now.”

I stare at the message.

I don’t play it. I delete it.

Then I leave the five–person group chat.

A moment later, I deactivate my number and hand my old phone to my father’s Beta.

The car door slowly closes.

At that exact moment, Nathan walks into my hospital room with William, Marcus, and Henry.

The room is already empty.

My luggage is gone. My medication is gone.

Even the photograph we once picked out together has disappeared.

The only thing left on the table is an empty ring box.

Nathan stands there, stunned.

Then he pulls out his phone and dials the number he knows by heart.

A cold automated voice answers.

“The number you have dialed is no longer in service.”

The color slowly drains from Nathan’s face.

And by then, the car carrying me has already crossed the Everwood Pack border.

This time, none of the four of them can catch me.

And they’ll never find me again.
