He Chose Her, So I Refused to Become His Luna Chapter 02

On the day I’m discharged from the Pack hospital, no one comes to pick me up.

Beta Ryan opens the car door for me and says quietly, “Alpha Nathan asked me to take you back to the Alpha House. He says he’ll be home tonight and have dinner with you.”

I don’t answer.

Nathan bought this house himself last year.

During the renovations, he held my hand and walked me through every room, telling me that this would be our home.

Once our Bonding Ceremony was over, I would officially become his Luna, and we would build our own family here.

But the moment the front door opens, I feel like a stranger.

The first thing I see is a pair of unfamiliar women’s boots by the entryway.

My slippers are gone from the shoe cabinet.

In their place sits Jasmine’s usual pair of white, fluffy slippers.

There’s a new set of women’s toiletries in the bathroom. Her coat is draped over the couch, and even the faint scent of her perfume lingers in the air.

The entire house is unnaturally quiet.

Before, Oreo would come running the moment it heard the front door open, rubbing against my legs and meowing until I picked it up.

I call its name twice.

There’s no response.

Then I glance toward the balcony.

The cat bed is gone.

So are the food bowl, water dish, and the cat tree I spent hours picking out.

I immediately call Nathan.

“Where’s Oreo?”

There’s a few seconds of silence on the other end.

Nathan finally says, “William handled it. Ask him.”

I hang up and call William instead.

He answers quickly.

“I sent the cat to a boarding facility.”

“Jasmine is allergic to cat hair. She had trouble breathing the moment she walked in yesterday.”

“You’re still recovering. It’s better if you don’t keep a cat around for now.”

My fingers slowly turn cold.

“Send me the address.”

William sighs.

“Can’t you just bring it back after a while?”

“The address.”

There’s no room for negotiation in my voice.

William sounds annoyed now.

“It’s only being boarded for a few days. Jasmine can’t even go home right now, and you’re really going to make an issue out of a cat?”

“That’s my cat. I’ve had Oreo for seven years.”

I hang up and leave without another word.

I check three different boarding facilities before I finally find Oreo.

It’s curled up in the very back of a cage, its whole body trembling.

The moment it sees me, it struggles to stand. But it’s too weak, and it bumps against the cage door.

The staff member tells me that Oreo has barely eaten since it was brought in.

“The man who dropped it off said the owner wasn’t able to take care of it right now. He only arranged a short stay and didn’t leave any contact information.”

“If no one comes for it after a few days, we’ll have to transfer it to a rescue for adoption.”

I hurry to open the cage.

The moment Oreo catches my scent, it lets out a tiny sound and rushes into my arms, holding onto my clothes as if it’s afraid I’ll let go.

Seven years ago, Nathan found Oreo during a downpour. It was nothing more than a tiny kitten, soaked through and shivering.

Nathan carried it over to me with a smile and said, “From now on, the three of us are a family.”

Later, when I carrying his child, the Pack elders urged me to give Oreo away. They were worried that keeping a cat around could affect the unborn heir of the Pack.

Nathan was the only one who held my hand and promised me, “No matter who leaves, Oreo stays.”

But now, I’m the one who is leaving this home.

I carry Oreo back to the Alpha House to collect my things.

I press my finger against the smart lock.

A cold automated voice immediately sounds.

“Identity verification failed.”

Before I can react, the door opens from the inside.

Jasmine is standing there.

She’s wearing my slippers, with the knitted cardigan Nathan bought for me draped over her shoulders.

The moment she sees Oreo in my arms, she instinctively takes a step back.

“Why did you bring it back? William only sent it away because he was worried something would happen to me.”

Her eyes fall on my face, and there’s a hint of hurt in her voice.

I don’t answer. I only look at the door lock.

“Where’s my access?”

Jasmine’s expression stiffens for a second.

“William deleted it.”

“He said you’re still recovering and might be emotionally overwhelmed. If you suddenly came back and caused a scene, he wouldn’t be able to get here in time.”

I stand outside the door without moving.

Every plate, every light, every piece of furniture in this house was something Nathan and I picked out together.

This was supposed to be our home after the Bonding Ceremony.

But now, Jasmine is standing inside my house, while even my Pack access has been taken away from me.

I lower my head and stroke Oreo’s fur.

“Move.”

Jasmine bites her lip, as if she still wants to say something.

Just then, the front door opens again, and William strides out.

The moment he sees the cat in my arms, his expression darkens.

He walks straight to Jasmine and moves her behind him protectively.

“I already told you. The cat was only supposed to stay at the boarding facility for a few days. Do you really have to push Jasmine until she has nowhere to go?”

I look at him without answering right away.

“She moved into my home. You sent my cat away and deleted my access.”

I lift my eyes, my voice frighteningly calm.

“Tell me, William. Who’s the one who has nowhere to go now?”

William freezes for a moment.

But he quickly regains his composure.

He remains on the other side of the door, blocking my way.

And in that moment, I finally understand.

In this house that once belonged to me, Jasmine was never the one being driven out.

It was me.
