The System Admitted Its Mistake—So I Offered Him a Divorce Chapter 05

I put away my phone.

Then I turned around.

Julian was still sitting there.

He stared at the divorce agreement without blinking.

He was studying it intently.

Something was strange, though.

The papers I folded so neatly were now a crumpled mess.

I sat down across from him.

“Julian, are you finished?”

His face showed nothing.

“One more page.”

I checked the time.

“Then please hurry.”

He said nothing for a moment.

“Okay.”

Julian answered flatly.

Then he added, almost casually.

“Lily, you know a divorce isn’t finalized right away, right? There are procedures we still have

to go through.”

“Also, I just remembered something.”

“I don’t know where our marriage certificate is. It might take a while to find it…”

I pointed toward the study.

Tknow where it is. The bottom locked drawer in the study. I saw it yesterday.”

Silence.

Julian’s breathing grew shallow.

“Lily, why… why do you suddenly want a divorce?”

I stopped what I was doing.

When I looked up, his gaze met mine.

I shrugged, pretending it was no big deal.

“I just don’t see the point anymore.”

“So you’re bored with me?”

I didn’t catch it. “What?”

Julian lowered his eyes. His voice sounded rough.

“Nothing.”

“It’s just… both our companies are growing. A divorce wouldn’t look good…”

His voice grew softer and softer.

I studied his face, propped my chin in my hand, and leaned closer with a light laugh.

“Julian, what’s this about? Don’t tell me you don’t want to divorce me. Did you fall in love with

me?”

I finished speaking.

His eyes flickered wildly.

Then his lip curled. The contempt hit me before he even spoke.

“Lily, do you honestly think that’s possible?”

“Fall in love with you? With a woman who’ll do anything to get what she wants? A woman who forces herself on me against my will? Am I insane?”

He finished speaking.

He seemed desperate to prove he didn’t love me.

He immediately grabbed the pen on the table.

Without hesitating, he signed his name.

“Lily, it’s not that I don’t want a divorce. I can’t wait to divorce you.”

“I just don’t want you pulling another one of your schemes. Someone like you is capable of

anything.”

My smile faded.

The mockery in his eyes was plain to see.

Suddenly, I wanted to ask him.

“Julian, what do you mean, someone like me? Is that really how low you think I am?”

But then I thought about it.

I was exactly the kind of person he described.

I couldn’t begin to compare to Sophie Carter, his destined female lead, the girl he adored and

never got over.

That was why he spoke to her so gently.

Sophie.

We were married by then.

I asked him over and over to call me Lil.

He refused every time.

“Lily, don’t you have anything better to do? We’re adults. Can you stop being so childish?”

Forget it.

I brought all of this on myself.

I pushed my feelings down.

Keeping my expression steady, I gathered the divorce agreement.

“Fine. I’ll see you at the courthouse in a month.”

“By the way, this house is mine. Pack your things and move out today.”

“I don’t want to see you here when I get home tonight.”

Julian’s shoulders gave an almost imperceptible shudder.

He watched me walk away.

His face slowly drained of color.
