He Mocked My Scar, So I Left Him to His Regret Chapter 13

At first, I didn’t notice him.

I was holding my camera, photographing the steep cliffs and the churning sea below.

When I swung the lens back toward the path, a familiar face suddenly filled the frame.

Holden was thinner. He looked worn, his hair cut much shorter

than before.

After a moment’s hesitation, I offered a polite nod.

“It’s been a long time.”

Holden stared at me for a long moment.

We had never formed a mate bond; there was no vow between us

that required me to stay for this reunion.

After a while, he finally spoke. “It has.”

I nodded and turned to leave.

“Lucia, your face…”

My hand instinctively went to where the scar had been.

There was no familiar, uneven texture beneath my fingertips. In

that moment, I remembered: I was no longer the girl who had to

hide behind her hair.

“I’m sorry.”

I turned back, surprised.

I had never imagined the proud Holden would apologize to me.

But the apology had come too late, and I had every right not to

accept it.

I looked down, adjusting the settings on my camera.

“I don’t accept your apology, Holden.”

“It’s been three years, but sometimes I still remember the way you looked at me. I didn’t imagine the disgust in your eyes.”

“You knew my situation. You knew how I got that scar. But you cared more about how you looked in front of your friends and the high-ranking families, so you never once stood up for me.”

Holden took a step closer.

I immediately stepped back, putting more distance between us.

The movement seemed to drain the color from his face. He finally understood that in my eyes, he was now someone to be wary of.

“I’m sorry,” he said again, his voice strained. “I never meant to

hurt you. Bianca lied to me, too.”

“Back at the academy, I stayed up late helping you study. But on every important exam, you were written up for cheating. I thought you’d been lying to me all along, so I believed what Bianca said.”

“Later, I found out she’d arranged all of it.”

“Lucia, I’m not saying this to dodge responsibility. I just… I want to

make it up to you.”

I had no interest in dissecting the past.

“Make it up to me?”

He lowered his head and gave a bitter little laugh.

“I deserve that.”

He looked up one last time. “Lucia, I hope everything goes well for

you.”

The scenery was beautiful, but I didn’t stay any longer.
