The Fake Group Darling Picked a Fight with the Real Boss Chapter 03

In less than a minute, the original poster blew up.

[What’s that supposed to mean? Who are you acting snarky with?]

[I knew it. The world’s full of women who can’t stand other girls being around their guy friends. You’re definitely one of them!]

[I’ve done nothing wrong. We’re just friends. Who are you to act bitter here?]

She posted over a dozen replies in a row.

And sure enough, some people chimed in, saying close friendships between men and women get upset by people with narrow views like me.

I didn’t reply.

Arguing with someone who crowned herself group favorite? Not worth my time.

Besides, we’d be meeting tonight anyway. What was the point of fighting online?

I opened my closet and picked out a white dress.

Gentle, clean, harmless.

It was important to make a good first impression when meeting a new friend.

Right before I left, a text from Zoya popped up.

[Harleigh, I just heard something. Sylvie has been telling everyone that the passenger seat in Manuel’s car is her reserved spot.]

I looked at the message and smiled.

What a coincidence. I had just stepped out of that exact seat.

The backrest angle was still set to my preference.

The hangout was held on the terrace of Trevor’s family estate.

Manuel and I arrived last.

The moment I stepped onto the terrace, I saw Trevor’s high school sister, Lori, helping hand out napkins and set up utensils off to the side.

Sylvie sat next to Manuel’s usual spot.

She was busy pouring drinks for everyone, acting like she owned the place.

When she saw me, she stood up with a smile. “You must be Harleigh! It’s so nice to finally meet you in person.”

She greeted me warmly, but her eyes traveled from my shoes all the way to my bag.

To be honest, I didn’t feel much hostility toward her at first.

It would’ve been progress if these guys managed to make a normal female friend.

Until I saw her so-called “group favorite” routine in action.

Trevor instinctively pulled out the chair next to the head of the table.

He moved his coat off the seat back to clear the most comfortable spot for me.

Sylvie instantly chuckled. “Why are you guys suddenly acting like total gentlemen today? Whenever I show up, you always make me grab my own chair.”

Colson remembered I didn’t eat onions and had the staff make me a separate portion.

He also slid the glass in front of me over to my left side, where I always kept it.

Sylvie chimed in again. “Guess old friends get special treatment. They never remember what I eat.”

Every single line was meant to drop a hint.

I didn’t bother taking the bait. Replying would make it look like I was competing with her.

The thing that really got to me was when Rupert took a phone call.
