After My Husband Left Me Alone with a Brain Injury I Stopped Waiting for Him to Come Back Chapter 08

Denzel was caught off guard by me.

He stopped getting close to me, but he still wouldn’t let me leave.

I was effectively kept under house arrest.

Meanwhile, Meredith went ahead and divorced Thomas, who was still in prison.

Denzel never divorced me, but since I’d been kept out of sight for so long, people started assuming something had happened to me.

To the outside world, Meredith was now his bride–to–be.

Naturally, control of the household finances shifted into her hands.

But in less than two months, the money started bleeding out. Losses piled up fast.

At first, Denzel reassured her. Gradually, even he couldn’t stay calm.

The deficit kept growing. A family as established as the Harrell family could only hold on for another six months at most.

Their expenses were already high, and Meredith had always loved luxury.

Denzel had finally gotten what he wanted. He wasn’t about to look weak in front of the woman he loved, so he gave her everything she asked for.

Caught between rising costs and reckless spending, the Harrell family’s accounts plunged deep into the red. They had no choice but to start selling off assets.

That day, Meredith came to see me.

She stared at me without blinking.

“Do you know why no one’s ever liked you? Because I’ve always been smarter than you.

“Even as a kid, I told our parents I was going to make something of myself. Not like you, keeping your head down and doing whatever you’re told like an idiot.

“Same with Denzel. I told him I loved him more and that I didn’t want to put him in a difficult

position. That’s why he’s always chosen me.‘

I clenched my hands, then lifted a brow slightly. “If he’s always chosen you, why hasn’t he divorced me?”

That hit exactly where I wanted.

I heard later that Meredith went back and picked a fight with Denzel.
