I Pretended to Be Dead and They All Panicked Chapter 07

That night, the hospital suddenly lost power.

The backup generators kicked in almost immediately, but the few minutes when the

security cameras went offline were more than enough for Evangeline to slip into my hospital

room unnoticed.

She stared at me as I lay motionless in bed, her

voice low and vicious.

“Bitch. Why did you have to come back and steal

my life? You grew up out there, didn’t you? Then

you should’ve died out there too. And why is it that

the second you showed up, Mom and Dad

suddenly only had eyes for you?”

She rushed at me and began clawing and hitting

me, unleashing every ounce of resentment she

had been holding inside.

When Evangeline realized she was running out of time, she grabbed my pillow and pressed it tightly over my face.

“Just die already. Once you’re dead, no one will be left to compete with me.” Her eyes gleamed with malice. “Don’t worry. Since we were sisters, I’ll make sure you get a spectacular funeral.”

The more she thought about it, the more thrilled

she became.

Then suddenly, the door to my hospital room was kicked open.

Evangeline barely had time to react before Julian. drove his foot into her, sending her flying across.

the room.

She slammed hard into the wall.

Julian’s eyes were bloodshot with rage.

“You sick bitch! The Sinclairs fed you, clothed you,

and raised you for over a decade, and this is how

you repay us? You ungrateful little snake!”

His chest heaved violently.

“I was willing to let it go because, no matter what, I

once considered you my sister. Even after you

conspired with someone else to frame Cordelia, I

didn’t want to pursue it any further.”

His voice dropped into a furious growl.

“But now you’ve actually tried to murder her?”

Realizing things had gone terribly wrong,

Evangeline scrambled to her feet and tried to

escape.

She had barely reached the door when she froze.

My parents stood there.

Behind them was a group of security guards,

blocking every possible way out.

My mother stepped forward and slapped Evangeline across the face with such force that

her head snapped to the side.

Evangeline staggered, dizzy from the blow, blood

beginning to seep from the corner of her mouth.

“How did I raise someone as cruel and ungrateful

as you?”

My mother’s voice trembled with heartbreak and

fury.

“Cordelia suffered so much out there. She finally

came home, and instead of caring about her, you

tried to kill her?”

Caught red–handed, Evangeline still refused to admit anything.

Tears immediately filled her eyes.

“Mom, Dad, Julian, you’ve got it all wrong!”

She burst into tears.

“The power suddenly went out, and I was worried

something might happen to Cordelia, so I came to

check on her. Then I saw her pillow had fallen, and I was only trying to put it back under her head!”

She cried harder, her face twisted with innocent–looking despair.

“It was too dark in here. Julian misunderstood

what I was doing!”

She was convinced that without the hospital security cameras, all she had to do was deny

everything.

No matter how furious my parents were, they would have no proof.

But the moment she finished speaking, my father

pulled out his phone and threw it onto the floor in front of her.

“Take a look at this.”

A video was playing on the screen.

Clear, high–definition footage.

It showed Evangeline pressing the pillow over my face.

It captured every vicious word she had said.

Evangeline spun around.

Only then did she notice the tiny hidden camera in

the corner of the room.

My father looked at her coldly.

“Your mother had it installed because she was afraid something might happen to Cordelia again.”

His voice was completely devoid of warmth.

“It has its own independent power source and isn’t connected to the hospital’s electrical system. We also had security watching around the clock.”

He glanced at the phone.

“At first, I thought she was being overly cautious.”

His gaze returned to Evangeline.

“Now I know it was one of the smartest decisions

she could have made.”

When Evangeline saw the fury in my parents‘ eyes,

she finally panicked.

She dropped to the floor and crawled toward my

mother, desperately clutching at her pant leg.

“Mom, I was wrong! Please! Please give me one

more chance!”

But my family had already reached their limit.

My mother turned her face away.

She couldn’t bear to look at Evangeline for another

second.

“Take her away.”

Her voice was cold.

“Turn over the surveillance footage to the police.

Let the law deal with her.”
