Ethan saw Lily on the news.

He had been looking for her like crazy, but still couldn’t find her.

Lily had blocked him.

He had no way to reach her.

Only later did he find out that her adoptive parents had thrown her out and that the company she worked for

had fired her.

Even after he had the trending topic taken down, the insults against her didn’t stop.

Then he saw her in a trending news report.

The photo had been heavily blurred.

But Ethan only needed one look.

His face went pale.

On the bloodstained wrist in the picture was a faint crescent-shaped scar.

It was Lily’s.

Seven years ago, when they had just started dating, she had shielded him from flying shards of a broken

wineglass.

That was how she’d gotten the scar.

Ethan snatched the phone, his fingers trembling so badly he could barely hold it.

The article said the victim had jumped into the river after suffering online harassment.

She was still missing.

Still missing.

Those words felt like a knife driven straight into his heart.

He thought about the call from a few hours earlier.

Lily’s voice had sounded weak and desperate.

And what had he done?

He had heard Claire laugh and coldly said, “Hang up.”

He had even said there was no need to take down the trending topic.

Just let it teach her a lesson,

Ethan bolted out of the hospital room.

Claire shouted after him.

“Ethan! Where are you going?”

He didn’t look back.

He ran more red lights than he could count.

By the time he reached the police station mentioned in the report, he barely even knew how he’d gotten there.

Adrian and the others were already there.

The moment Adrian saw Ethan, he charged at him and punched him across the face.

Ethan didn’t dodge.

He didn’t fight back.

Another punch landed.

Then another.

Adrian’s fists rained down on him.

Claire arrived and screamed when she saw them.

“Adrian! Stop!”

She rushed over to pull him away.

But Adrian had lost control.

His hand swung out and struck Claire across the face, leaving her dizzy and disoriented.

Adrian grabbed Ethan by the collar, rage burning in his eyes.

“You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”

“You knew Lily was my sister all along, didn’t you?”

Ethan’s face was covered in blood.

Then he suddenly laughed.

The sound was hollow and broken.

“Yeah.”

“I knew Lily was the Sterling family’s daughter.”

“That’s why I approached her on purpose.”

“I wanted to know what kind of person she was.”

“I figured that with a brother like you, she’d probably be impossible to deal with.”

“Because honestly… you’re pretty damn annoying.”

Adrian’s grip tightened.

Ethan kept talking.

“But she wasn’t anything like I expected.”

“You know what?”

“Lily was so easy to fool.”

“She was lied to for seven years and never even knew who she really was.”

Ethan closed his eyes.

He smiled, wild and unfocused.

“I deserve to die.”

“Go ahead. Hit me.”

Adrian completely lost it.

He punched Ethan several more times.

The police finally stepped in and pulled them apart.

Claire was shaking as she cried.

“Adrian, now that Lily’s your sister, does that mean you don’t want me anymore?”

“Are you really throwing away more than twenty years between us?”

“Just because she’s related to you by blood, you’re going to let Lily take my place?”

“Adrian, answer me.”

She looked completely devastated.

But Adrian laughed too.

His expression looked more painful than tears.

Claire, I really want to believe you.

“I don’t want to believe that the girl I’ve called my sister for more than twenty years could be someone this

Vicious.”

“But tell me something.”

“Why did Lily’s adoptive parents betray her the moment they saw you?”

He stepped closer and lifted Claire’s chin.

“Think carefully.”

“Don’t brush me off.”

“You know me.”

“I hate being lied to.”
