My Godfather Husband Gave Our Marriage a Zero, but Refused to Let Me Divorce Him Chapter 09

Overnight, Livia was torn apart by public condemnation and buried under lawsuits.

Rocco was labeled a fool and a cheating husband. Even the family’s business interests took heavy

damage.

Yet he barely bothered handling family business these days. He paid no mind to the insults and accusations swirling online. All he craved was to see me.

Late one night, unable to sleep, he finally typed out a message and hit send.

[Odette, I want to talk about the divorce. I won’t sign the papers unless I meet you face-to-face.]

[Fine.] That was my short, straightforward reply.

It was the only message I’d sent him since leaving. I had never opened, never read all his excuses

and regretful pleas.

I never expected him to choose that cramped, shabby basement as our meeting spot.

Memories washed over me.

On our wedding day, he told me we would own a big house and grow rich. His only demand was that

I spend fifty million dollars within a single year and leave nothing leftover.

No one could have guessed that after gaining wealth, we would drift apart.

Now, when everything was falling apart, we circled back to that very basement.

The walls were peeling, the stale air thick with mold. Every piece of furniture remained exactly as it

had been during our leanest years.

Rocco wore no designer suit. Just a plain white T-shirt and jeans, as if he’d stepped back into his struggling younger self.

“I bought this place,” he said, sitting at the table, gaunt and haggard. “Once I dreamed desperately

of escaping this sunless dump. I hated it. Now I find myself longing for the life we shared here.”

A faint, wistful smile flickered across his face as he sank into old memories.

“I don’t miss it,” I said coldly. “Rocco, I deeply regret staying by your side all those years. You

never deserved me.”

Rocco froze, his eyes reddening.

“Odette, I haven’t forgotten every kindness you showed me. I failed you and your mother. I didn’t

now Livia would answer my phone and say those cruel things. I lost my own mother young. I truly

thought of yours as my mom.”

He swallowed the bitter lump in his throat and kept going. “And I failed our baby. We drafted seven

different designs for the nursery. We even picked out a name.”

I had no desire to relive the loss of our child, so I cut him off. “Let’s get straight to the divorce.”

Rocco stared at me, desperation in his gaze.

“Odette, I’ve driven Livia away, and I will sue her until she’s ruined. I’ll give you shares in the family business so you will never worry about money again. Can you find it in your heart to give me

one more chance?”

I shook my head calmly. “You can’t buy back a dead heart. I didn’t leave you for money when I loved you. I won’t come crawling back for fortune now.”

Rocco buried his face in his hands.

After a long pause, he whispered. “Do you think everything would be different if Livia had never

come back?”

A sharp, bitter laugh escaped me. “You are the one who changed. If not Livia, it would have been someone else. Your faith in us crumbled long before she arrived.”

The color drained from his face, and his lips trembled. “Odette, won’t you give me even one chance

to make amends?”

“Chances were already given,” my tone stayed flat, with no obvious emotion.

“Every time Livia marked me down with zeroes, you never defended me. The rainy day I fell while pregnant and lay injured in the hospital, I still hoped we could go back to the old days. When strangers jeered at me in the luxury resale shop, you looked away and did nothing.”

“You wasted every single opportunity.”

Rocco fell silent. Tears finally spilled over his cheeks and landed on the tabletop.

I reminded him. “Let’s move on to business. My time is limited.”
