Reborn, I Gave Him What He Wanted and Stopped Saving Him Chapter 13

When I got home, I drank an entire glass of water before I could calm down.

When I looked up, I met Ethan’s worried eyes.

I hesitated.

“Weren’t you going home? Why did you come back?”

He handed me a small box.

I recognized the bakery immediately. It was my favorite.

“Mia told me you liked this place. I saw they had a new pastry on the way home. So I picked one up

Something inside my chest softened.

I took the box.

“Thank you. If you hadn’t come, Alexander probably would’ve kept bothering me. I’ll buy you

dinner sometime.”

Ethan only looked at me. There was something complicated in his eyes.

After a long silence, his smile disappeared.

His voice became serious.

“Sophia. If you really want to thank me… Will you give me a chance to pursue you?”

My eyes widened. My mind went blank. A chance to pursue me?

“Sophia.” He called my name softly.

“I’ve liked you for a very long time. I was even planning to return and build my career here.”

“But before I had everything arranged, you were already with Alexander. So I buried those

feelings.”

Memories came rushing back.

After I had lost my legs in the previous life, Mia and Ethan had flown in overnight.

Mia had cried so hard she could barely speak. She had held my hand.

“Sophia, you must be in so much pain. If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve made my brother steal you away. I never would’ve let you end up with Alexander.”

had thought she was only upset because I was hurt.

I looked at Ethan beside my hospital bed.

“Don’t listen to Mia. I’m fine. I’m already recovering.”

Ethan had said nothing.

His eyes had been red. He looked at me for a long moment. Then walked out.

When he returned, his shirt was slightly disheveled.

His fists were clenched.

“Sophia. Would you come to Los Angeles with us?”

“I’ll find you the best hospital. The best doctors. I’ll make sure you never get hurt again.”

But at that time, my heart belonged entirely to Alexander.

I refused.

“No. Thank you. It was just an accident. Alexander will take care of me.”

Much later, I learned Ethan had gone outside and fought Alexander.

But I had never thought much about it. I assumed he only cared about me like a little sister.

Now he was telling me he had loved me all along.

“You deserve so much better than Alexander. He never knew how to value you.Losing you is the consequence he deserves.”

“Sophia, I’ve waited a long time.”

“Will you give me a chance?”

I looked into his gentle eyes.

Suddenly, guilt rose inside me.

“What if I told you I knew Alexander would end up like this? That I knew someone would hit him

and destroy his life. And I didn’t stop it.”

I stood and looked down at Ethan.

“Would you still think I’m a good person?”

Ethan froze.

His lips pressed into a thin line.

Something complicated crossed his face.

A quiet disappointment settled inside me.

I gave a bitter smile.

“I’ll find my own place soon. I’ll talk to Mia. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. If there’s nothing else, you should go. I’m tired.”

I turned away.

Then Ethan grabbed my wrist.

His voice came from behind me.

“So that’s why you’ve been upset today?”
