Reborn, I Gave Him What He Wanted and Stopped Saving Him Chapter 09

The driver dropped Alexander outside Sophia’s apartment.

On the way, he had ordered flowers, a cake, and an expensive diamond necklace.

He had rarely taken Sophia on dates because of work. Even his gifts had always been careless.

From now on, he would give her everything she wanted.

He imagined her hearing his apology and confession. He imagined her running into his arms.

Full of hope, Alexander took the elevator upstairs.

When he arrived, the apartment door was open.

He moved his wheelchair forward.

Then froze.

Strangers filled the apartment.

None of them were Sophia.

“Who are you? Why are you in Sophia’s apartment? Where is she?”

His voice was cold.

But panic had already risen inside him.

Something important was gone.

A man in a suit approached him.

“Are you a friend of Ms. Carter?”

“She’s left the state. She also hired us to sell the apartment.”

Alexander’s entire body went cold.

Sophia had left?

Why hadn’t she told him?

Why had she disappeared without a word?

He remembered her face when she had asked to break up.

The love had been gone.

Only exhaustion remained.

She had already been planning to leave.

She hadn’t been angry.

She hadn’t been bluffing.

She really didn’t love him anymore.

Alexander had been so arrogant.

He thought Sophia would never leave. He thought she was only jealous. He thought she was using the breakup to force him to fire Emily.

And now he had lost her completely.

Pain ripped through his chest.

He gritted his teeth.

“I’ll buy this apartment. Don’t touch anything. Everyone out.”

One of the buyers frowned.

“We were here first. You can’t just… Get out!”

The agent immediately ushered the buyers away.

Alexander looked around.

Almost every trace of Sophia was gone.

The apartment felt familiar.

Yet strangely empty.

As he passed the coffee table, he noticed something in the trash.

A torn photograph.

His pupils contracted.

He reached for it.

His body lost balance.

He fell hard from the wheelchair.

The wound on his leg tore open.

Blood soaked through his pants.

But he ignored the pain.

He picked up the pieces.

His hands shook as he put them together.

It was a photo from when he and Sophia had first started dating.

Their only photograph together.

Sophia had once treated it like a treasure.

She had even ordered a custom frame and carefully displayed it.

At the time, Alexander hadn’t understood.

It was only a photograph.

Why had it mattered so much?

Sophia had smiled.

“This is where we started.”

“When we get married, I want it shown at our wedding.”

Then she had covered her mouth, embarrassed by her own words.

Now she didn’t want the photograph.

She didn’t want him either.

Alexander touched the image of her smiling face.

His eyes burned.

Tears rolled down his cheeks.

His chest felt hollow.

Every heartbeat brought another sharp stab of pain.

Blood rose in his throat.

He suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Then everything went black.
