Reborn, I Gave Him What He Wanted and Stopped Saving Him Chapter 01

After losing both legs saving Alexander Blackwood, I became suspicious, volatile, and impossible to reassure.

If he came home one minute late, answered a call one second too slowly, or spoke to a female nurse for too long, I would lose control. Sometimes, I even hurt myself.

To calm me down, he deleted every woman from his contacts and voluntarily installed a location tracker, letting me monitor his movements at all times.

Until the third year, when his first love, Emily Hayes, sent me a photo of the two of them together.

“You may have his body trapped, but you can’t trap his heart, Sophia Carter. Instead of dragging yourself through a miserable life like this, you might as well die.”

This time, I didn’t fight. I didn’t scream.

I simply invited Emily to my apartment, knocked her unconscious, and started a fire.

By the time Alexander rushed over, the flames were already out of control.

I stared straight at him. “You can only save one of us today. Her or me.”

Alexander didn’t hesitate. He ran straight toward me. Even with his arm burning, he carried me out of the fire.

But the smile on my face froze the next second.

His eyes were filled with exhaustion. “If I’d known you’d kill her, I would have rather you never saved me. I should have died in that crash.”

Then he turned around and walked back into the fire.

I watched helplessly as he wrapped his arms around Emily. They kissed in the flames, holding each other until the very end.

Pain exploded in my chest. I suddenly coughed up blood.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back three days before the accident.

Alexander Blackwood, this time I’ll give you exactly what you wanted.

I won’t save you. And I won’t love you again.

The pain in my chest still felt unbearable.

I bit down hard on my lip and looked at my perfectly intact legs. Tears finally fell.

Familiar voices could be heard from nearby.

“Give it another minute. That pathetic girl is coming to bring Dr. Blackwood lunch again.”

“Honestly, he shouldn’t have saved her in the first place. It would have been better for her to die by the roadside than to be haunted by her.”

“I wonder what she’d do if she found out that Dr. Blackwood never eats the food she brings. ”

The lunch container dug painfully into my palm.

In my previous life, I had exploded after hearing those words.

I had fought with everyone.

I had burned every bridge around me.

Someone even posted about me online, calling me a crazy woman who had latched onto Dr. Blackwood.

Eventually, Alexander banned me from the hospital.

But now, I dropped the lunch into the trash.

“Thump.” The sound made everyone turn toward me.

“No need to feel sorry for it,” I said calmly.

“Your precious Dr. Blackwood is about to become single.”

They stared at me. their faces showing neither embarrassment at being caught in the act nor relief at hearing that we were breaking up.

Instead, they looked nervous.

Then a cold voice came from behind me.

“Leaving your post during work hours. Half your performance bonus is gone this month.”

Everyone’s faces went pale. Alexander grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his office.

The moment the door closed, he released me.

Then he calmly picked up the disinfectant and cleaned his hands.

“They were just talking. They didn’t mean any harm. Don’t take it personally.”

I looked at that familiar yet unfamiliar face.

For a moment, I almost forgot how to breathe.

I hadn’t seen this distant version of Alexander in a long time.

The first time I met him, I had collapsed from low blood sugar on my way to work. Alexander happened to pass by and saved me.

I fell for him instantly and pursued him relentlessly.

Even after we started dating, he remained distant. I thought that was simply who he was.

Until I was injured saving him. Everything changed after that. He became gentle and attentive, doing everything for me himself.

But the better Alexander treated me, the more I wondered.

Was he doing it because he felt guilty? Or did he truly love me?

That question became a curse. It haunted me every day and slowly ate away at the little sanity I had left.

My emotions became increasingly unstable.

Alexander never got angry.

Again and again, he reassured me. “Sophia, I love you. I’ll never leave you.”

Slowly, I started believing him. I even began therapy.

Until I received Emily’s photo.

The last thread holding me together finally snapped.

I started that fire. I used the cruelest possible way to force Alexander to prove whether he loved me or Emily.

But in the end, I lost everything.

Now fate had given me another chance. This time, I would live for myself.

I took a deep breath. “Alexander, we’re done.”
