The Comments Called Me the Villain, Then He Asked Why I Stopped Kissing Him Chapter 03

A colleague’s voice filtered through the background, teasing. “Your fiancée doesn’t sound nearly as controlling as you made her sound, Hayes. She seems pretty chill to me.”

“Guess you can’t use her as an excuse next time we invite you out.”

A tiny spark of pride lit in my chest. For once, I hadn’t embarrassed him in front of anyone.

But Julian’s voice came back tight — edged with something I couldn’t name: maybe frustration, maybe hurt. “Stay right there. Don’t move. I’m coming to get you.”

Comments scrolled in. [Wait… is the side character actually changing??]

[So what? That doesn’t undo everything she’s done. She’s still a brainless bimbo. The FL is the only one who actually GETS the ML.]

While I waited, it hit me — I’d been so focused on the Perler beads that I’d skipped dinner entirely. I found a yogurt smoothie in the fridge and managed a few sips.

The keypad beeped. The door swung open. Julian came straight to me, took my phone out of my hand, and canceled the ride.

Then his hand was on my waist and his mouth was on mine — no warning, no words, only heat and pressure and demand.

Strawberry yogurt — sweet and thick — melted between us as the kiss deepened.

When he finally pulled back, my knees had gone weak. I clutched his shirt, eyes wet, barely breathing. “Julian… what was that?”

“You licked your lips.” His voice was rough. “Wasn’t that an invitation?” That was yogurt on my upper lip, you lunatic.

Julian paused, like something had just clicked. “You used to love calling me daddy. What happened to that?”

He was younger than me — that had been the whole joke.

Every time I’d done it, his face would go red — half flustered, half furious. His reaction was always huge, which was exactly why I kept doing it.

I pouted. “You hate it anyway.”

“Yeah.” Julian’s answer came half a beat too late.

More comments appeared. [Hold on — that kiss did NOT feel like “I hate her”??? I thought the ML couldn’t stand her??]

[I mean, her personality is trash, but her face and body are insane. He’s still a guy at the end of the day…]

[This girl dumped her entire IQ into seduction, I swear. Good thing our ML isn’t shallow enough to fall for a pretty face.]

I eased him back. Julian searched my face. “Were you sleeping this afternoon? You were so quiet.”

“I’ve been thinking.” I smoothed the wrinkle I’d left in his shirt. “Couples need space. That’s healthy, right?”

If those comments were right, Julian would eventually fall for the female lead. The smart move was to start pulling back now — be better, be easier to love, or at least easier to remember fondly.

That way, when the company went sideways — and it would — maybe he’d look back on us and still be willing to help.

I met his eyes — dark and unreadable. “Julian. Would you be happier if I stopped being so clingy?”

He almost smiled — the kind of smile that said he didn’t believe a word of it. “Sure. But last time you said that, it lasted about five minutes.”

This time it’ll stick. I kept the answer where he couldn’t hear it.

Back at the apartment, Julian showered and came out wearing the bunny onesie I’d bought him — without me even asking.

Comments appeared. [Oh, here we go again with the role-play. This girl’s mind lives in the gutter. Watch, she’s about to say something nasty.]

[The thirstier she gets, the more disgusted he is. She literally can’t read the room.]
