The Comments Called Me the Villain, Then He Asked Why I Stopped Kissing Him Chapter 01

My fiancé was never the needy one. I was the high-maintenance nightmare — always hanging on him, begging for kisses, saying something filthy just to watch him squirm.

I’d always thought we balanced each other out. Then one day, comments started scrolling across my vision.

[All this side character thinks about is sex. The ML’s got a meeting in five minutes, and she’s trying to drag him into a makeout session?? She’s dead weight.]

[Her whole purpose is to make the ML and FL look perfect together. That’s it.]

[I mean, she’s kinda tragic too. She pissed off way too many people. Once her parents died, she couldn’t hold her own against the old guard at the company, crossed the ML, got boxed in, and went off the roof. It was a gruesome end.]

[Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. She was dumb AND vicious — what did she expect?]

I froze.

Julian Hayes pulled back, confused. “What happened?”

***

“Never mind.” I backed away, my voice catching. “You don’t have time for this anyway.”

The break room went quiet. Only the sound of us breathing filled the dimly lit space.

Julian stood, and my gaze dropped to the twin creases in his perfectly pressed slacks — right where my thighs had been.

His voice stayed even, almost matter-of-fact. “If we leave it unfinished, you’ll barge into my meeting anyway.”

I moved out of his way. “I won’t. Go — you’re gonna be late.”

Julian’s eyes lifted to mine, searching. He studied me for a second, then sighed. “Are you mad? I really am slammed today — I’m sorry.”

I had a sarcastic streak a mile wide — everyone knew it. But I meant every word.

That image — my body, broken and bloody at the base of a building — wouldn’t let go of me. The fear sank all the way into my bones.

More comments flooded in.

[Oh my GOD who set her off this time?? Stop taking it out on the ML challenge: impossible. Keep pushing him away, girl. See how fast you crash and burn without him covering for you.]

[She has literally zero business sense. The ML’s been secretly keeping her company afloat this whole time. Without him? That place would’ve collapsed the day her parents died.]

[The ML’s problem is he’s TOO nice. He felt sorry for her after her parents died, so he let her get away with everything. Kiss him, touch him, sleep with him. She basically used his guilt as a free pass.]

[She really thought he was just built that way — cold, uninterested, no sex drive. Girl. He’s not cold. He just can’t stand YOU. Who wants a girlfriend whose only skill is looking pretty and getting in the way?]

I was still reeling when Julian leaned in. My body flinched before my mind could tell it not to.

“Be good. Hold still.”

His lips brushed my forehead — soft and unhurried. “We’ll pick this up later, okay? I’ll make it up to you. Promise.”

Any other day, that face would’ve short-circuited my brain.

That voice — low, cool, laced with something dangerous enough to ruin me — would’ve had me wrapping my arms around his neck, calling him daddy just to feel him tense, and demanding he make it up to me right now, meeting be damned.

I would’ve made him choose. It would’ve been me or the meeting, and there wouldn’t have been a right answer.

But instead, I just shook my head. “Don’t worry about it.”

Julian’s phone kept lighting up — his assistant was blowing it up with message after message.

He didn’t even look at the screen. When he finally spoke, his tone stayed light — almost too light. “Sure. Probably better this way. I can actually focus.”

His voice gave nothing away.

The comments surged back.

[Wait, why is she suddenly acting so obedient?? Is this a reverse psychology thing? Pull away so he comes chasing?]

[Who cares lol. At least the ML dodged a bullet this time.]

[Okay, but why did he kiss her forehead though?? That was kinda weird.]

[Because she’s a walking disaster lmao. He kissed her so she wouldn’t storm into the conference room and embarrass him. That wasn’t affection — that was damage control.]

I locked myself in the bathroom and ran cold water over my face.

The girl in the mirror was gorgeous — objectively, undeniably gorgeous. I gripped the edge of the sink. “I’m way too pretty to die.”
