My Brother’s Girlfriend Set Rules For Me, Until Karma Came For Her Chapter 07

Everyone in the country-club set knew the Whitmore Family Charter was strict.

Growing up, Grayson was a handful-climbing trees, swimming in ponds, pulling pranks left and

right.

Even so, in his twenty-plus years, he’d only been disciplined under the family charter once.

That time was when he was seven. He had some brain lapse and almost burned down the 200-year-old historic oak at Grandma Whitmore’s Berkshires estate.

That punishment did a number on him.

After that, every time he visited Grandma Whitmore, he walked around that tree.

So the moment Mom’s words landed, Grayson panicked.

“Mom! Don’t get worked up, don’t get worked up! I really know I was wrong!”

“Sienna getting hurt is all my fault. I shouldn’t have let Alma go. I-I was an idiot on my birthday too. I know I messed up. You can hit me, yell at me, cut off my allowance, whatever. Just don’t bring out the family charter, okay?”

“I’m a grown man. If you still use the family charter on me, how am I supposed to show my face if this gets out?”

Even with resentment in his heart, Grayson still knelt on the floor and didn’t dare get up.

Paige was chewing her lip raw. She stepped forward, latched onto Mom’s arm, and started pointing

fingers at me.

“Mrs. Whitmore, don’t blame Grayson. He only did something stupid because he felt sorry for me.”

“This is my first time at your house, but I don’t know how I offended Sienna. Not only did she try to

kick me out, she had staff slap me.”

“Grayson’s always been good to me. He couldn’t just stand there and watch. Mrs. Whitmore, don’t take it out on him. Talk to your daughter first.”

Mom pulled her arm free and looked her up and down without expression. Finally her gaze fixed on

the slippers on Paige’s feet.

“Why are my daughter’s slippers on your feet?”

Paige stammered. “These are matching couple’s slippers. It’s inappropriate for siblings to wear

them-”

Mom’s voice rose sharply. “You know they’re siblings! You say whatever comes into your mouth Grayson, is this the girlfriend you chose?”

rayson closed his eyes, looking helpless.

“Mom, she’s just a little jealous.”

“She’s jealous, so you let her use rumors to destroy our family? And your sister-how is she supposed to deal with you after this?”

The air went silent.

Only the soft clink of my utensils sounded as I ate slowly.

Soon, Alma came downstairs, carrying a large box.

When Mom took out the riding crop-the family heirloom-I saw Grayson’s back shrink.

Paige finally exploded.

“Mrs. Whitmore, this is my first time at the Whitmore house, and my first time meeting you and

Mr. Whitmore.”

“Grayson’s always been so sweet to me. He was just trying to protect me. Please don’t blame him, Mrs. Whitmore. Maybe you should be asking your daughter what she did.”

Mom completely ignored her and flicked the riding crop. With one strike, a bloody line appeared on Grayson’s back.

Paige couldn’t dodge in time. The tail of the crop hit her arm, leaving it red and swollen instantly.

She cried from the pain, but quickly realized that in the Whitmore house, her tricks on Grayson

were useless.

But I didn’t expect that the next second she would throw herself behind Grayson, face set like she

was ready to die.

“If you’re gonna hit someone, hit me! I can’t just stand here and watch you hurt my boyfriend like

this!”

The riding crop in Mom’s hand paused.

The family charter was for family. Not for guests.

Besides, Mom’s upbringing would never let her bully a younger guest in her own home.

Even if the strike had landed on Paige’s back, it would only push Grayson closer to her-how hard

would it be for a lovesick fool to forget a girl who took family charter disciplinary action for him?

I put down my spoon, wiped my mouth, and stood.

Every step pulled at the wound on my back.

But it didn’t stop me from walking steadily up to Paige and slapping her twice.

She glared at mé, eyes almost splitting.

“How dare you!”

I shook my stinging hand.

“Didn’t you say it yourself? If we’re going to hit someone, hit you.”

“What, not enough?”
