He Made Me Schedule Meetings, Then Failed to Book Me Chapter 03

I slid the gold ring off my finger.

“Tell him he doesn’t need to come looking for it.”

It was the first gift Ethan had ever given me.

Back then, I didn’t need an appointment to see him. I could see him whenever I wanted.

After he replaced it with a six-figure wedding ring, I couldn’t see him even when I had an appointment.

I left the property office and went straight to the nearest family-law firm to have the divorce papers drafted.

Mrs. Harper suddenly called.

“Ma’am, I don’t know what’s gotten into Mason. He’s been crying and insisting on seeing you.”

My brow twitched, and I rushed home as fast as I could.

The moment I stepped inside, Mason threw himself into my arms.

He hadn’t been this close to me in a long time, not since Chloe came into his life.

I softened my voice. “What is it, Mason?”

“Mom, I have a present for you. I want to show you.”

Mason took my hand and led me toward his bedroom.

Watching him walk away, I suddenly regretted not asking for custody of him in the divorce papers.

Mason stopped at the door.

I asked softly, “What did you get Mom?”

He turned around and held out his tightly clenched fist.

The instant I bent down, he shoved me hard in the lower abdomen!

“I got you a hundred-day hospital vacation!”

“My teacher said injuries like that take a hundred days to heal. Dad’s taking me and Aunt Chloe to the beach next month, and I won’t let you bother us with your appointments anymore!”

I fell straight backward.

As the room spun, the last thing I saw was the twisted look on my son’s face.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed.

Ethan sat beside me, completely focused on the laptop screen in front of him.

I called his name, and only then did he look up.

“You’re awake. Does anything hurt?”

He helped me sit up halfway and handed me a glass of warm water.

“Good thing there was thick carpeting on the stairs. You only scraped yourself. Nothing’s broken.”

“I already disciplined Mason. He’ll apologize tonight.”

A sharp pain shot through my ring finger.

He had slipped the gold ring back onto my finger.

The bent ring had scratched a shallow, bleeding line into my skin.

He didn’t notice.

“I got your ring back. Don’t take it off just to spite me again.”

I stared at the ceiling, unable to name what I felt.

Someone knocked at the door.

Chloe peeked halfway into the room and pointed to the watch on her wrist.

It matched Ethan’s.

The month before, he’d taken off the Cartier watch I’d given him and he’d worn for five years, replacing it with a Patek Philippe.

He said he’d gotten tired of it and wanted a change.

He hadn’t just replaced the watch. He’d replaced the person who gave it to him.

Ethan stood at once.

“Chloe and I need to choose supplies for next month’s company retreat.”

When he met my eyes, he tapped his calendar.

“Even staying here with you took up time she’d booked.”

The last time his calendar opened, I had still been unconscious.

I said nothing, only letting out a quiet laugh.

Ethan frowned, as if my reaction offended him.

“Staying here won’t make you heal any faster.”

As they prepared to leave, I still couldn’t stop myself from asking:

“How could a beach trip with two adults and a child count as a company retreat?”

Ethan didn’t slow down.

“I told you. If you need comforting or an explanation, book me for next Friday.”

“You made Chloe the first person on your calendar. I have the right to book you, but not the right to actually get a time with you.”

“How is that any different from giving me the title of your wife while giving her the treatment of one?”

Ethan finally turned around.

I pulled the divorce papers from my bag and held them out in front of him.

“Sign them.”
