The Comments Told Me to Fight the Fake Heiress but I Chose Her as My Sister Chapter 03

I shook my head.

“Move her things back tomorrow. I’m fine in any room.”

I smiled to keep her from overthinking it. “This estate is huge. There’s got to be a room for me somewhere, right?”

Clara’s eyes went even redder. “Lila, you’re such a good girl.”

I didn’t feel like a good girl.

I’d just died once. Now I finally knew that not every concession was a loss.

I couldn’t sleep. I got up to get water.

Passing the end of the hall, I heard a low voice through the guest suite door.

“Mom, I’m really fine.”

It was Elowen.

“Lila went through so much out there. It’s right that I give her the room.”

Whoever was on the line said something. She went quiet for a long time.

When she spoke again, her voice was hoarse.

“I know I’m not their biological daughter.”

“But I don’t know where else to go.”

I stood outside, fingers slowly tightening around my glass.

The crimson lines surfaced.

[See? She’s playing the victim!]

[Now your parents will feel sorry for her and ignore you!]

I stared at the words and almost laughed.

If a girl couldn’t even let herself break down crying behind a closed door on that phone call, just how evil could she really be?

At breakfast the next morning, the whole family was there.

August had the kitchen prepare a full spread, afraid I wouldn’t eat anything.

Elowen sat across from me and slid a plate of mini quiches toward me.

“These aren’t sweet. You might like them better.”

The crimson lines jumped.

[She’s doing it AGAIN!]

I took one.

It was delicious.

Caspian looked at me. “Want to come by the office today? No rush. Just to get a feel for things.”

In my past life, I’d jumped at it to prove I wasn’t worse than Elowen.

I couldn’t even read the basic financials. The department heads had eaten me alive.

This time, I set down my fork.

“I want to catch up on the coursework first. I’ll come to the office, but don’t throw me in front of everyone on day one.”

A flicker of surprise crossed Caspian’s face.

“Fair. I’ll arrange tutors.”

“Don’t just send your people.” I said, “I’ll find my own materials too.”

August nodded. “Fine. However you want to do it.”

The atmosphere had just settled when a staff member appeared at the door.

“Silas is here.”

Silas walked in carrying gift boxes.

He greeted August and Clara first, then handed an elegantly wrapped package to Elowen.

“You mentioned this blend was discontinued. I tracked some down.”

Only then did he act like he’d remembered me, holding out the other box.

“Lila, this is for you.”

I opened it. A diamond tennis bracelet.

But here’s the surprise: Elowen didn’t take it.

“Silas, you really don’t have to get me things like this. Lila’s your intended. It’s better if we keep boundaries.”

Silas smiled. “Elowen, always thinking of everyone else.”

He said it while watching me out of the corner of his eye.

Like he was waiting for me to lose it.
