“What do you think?” I let my voice sound like ice. “Did you really think I’d just let Maisie steal my place?”

“What did you do?” Rafe roared. “Are you insane?!”

Maisie heard me over the line and sobbed even harder.

Rafe squeezed his eyes shut, trying desperately to maintain his composure as the future Alpha.

“Did you mess with the application?!”

I chuckled. Even I could hear how cold it sounded.

“You had the password. How could I change it? Besides, I told you–I didn’t get into Silverfang Academy. You just didn’t believe me.”

“You–” He choked out. “Do you have any idea how close Maisie is to a breakdown?! You played all of us!”

“So what?” I cut through his roar.

“I told you: these are my scores, my life. If you thought I’d hand them over to Maisie on a silver platter, you’re

delusional.”

My parents’ enraged screams chimed in from the background.

“How can you be so selfish! Audra, did you even think about your sister when you pulled this nonsense?! You

make me sick!”

“If Maisie can’t go to school, you’re not going either!”

“Either withdraw right now, or… or I’m banishing you from the Pinehollow Pack!”

I chuckled again.

“I make you sick?”

“You’re the only wolves on this planet who think so. Ever consider that maybe the problem is you?”

“Banish me then. Please. I’m sick of every single one of you anyway.”

With that, I hung up and tossed my phone aside.

On the other end, everyone was still reeling from my sudden outburst.

Mom blinked. “Did she… did she just say she’s cutting ties with us?”

Rafe stunned for a second–his wolf ears pinning back.

But when he saw Maisie on the verge of fainting, he snapped out of it.

“We’re going to Limestone City!”

“If she won’t withdraw, Maisie will take her place at Wolfcrest Academy instead.”

“And that ‘I’m sick of you’ garbage? She’s just dramatic. Ignore her.”

Without even telling the rest of the pack, they booked immediate tickets to Limestone City.

Meanwhile, at Wolfcrest Academy, my mentor handed me a bank card.

“Audra, this is from the school–an advance payment of fifteen thousand dollars.”

“Your scholarship will be paid automatically every semester. You don’t need to worry about a thing.”

I took it. “Thank you.”

I knew why they advanced it.

My faded hoodie and empty backpack gave away the cold truth–I didn’t have a dime to my name.

She squeezed my shoulder. “Come on, let me show you around.”

She walked me through the entire facility.

She introduced me to every single professor.

Honestly? It was overwhelming.

Finally, she pulled me aside.

“Oh, as the top S-tier freshman in Combat, you’ll be giving a speech at the orientation. Is that okay?”

I gave a firm nod.

“Of course. I’d be honored!”

At three in the afternoon, the freshman orientation began.

I stood backstage, my heart pounding against my ribs.

But suddenly, I caught a familiar, sickening scent–my family had tracked me down.

Then my phone buzzed violently.

[We’re at Wolfcrest Academy. Where are you? We need to talk.]
