Maisie’s heart sank. “Is something wrong?”

Mom, Dad, and Rafe all crowded forward. “What happened?”

The attendant gave an awkward, stiff smile. “Hold on, let me get someone. System might be glitching.”

Another attendant walked over.

The two of them stared at the monitor, then exchanged a look.

They turned back to Maisie and the Pinehollow Pack, their expressions making Maisie’s skin crawl.

“Just to confirm–Audra Keene? Botany?”

“Yeah. Why?”

The attendant pressed her lips into a thin line.

“Sorry, we don’t have an incoming student named Audra Keene in Botany.”

“In fact, that name isn’t on our freshman roster at all.”

“Maybe you should double-check your information?”

Snap.

Like a bomb dropping. Like a pack of rogues breaching territory.

“What?!” Maisie’s voice went high and squeaky, trembling. “That’s impossible! Check again! I was admitted

as an S-rank applicant!”

They checked again.

“Sorry. No Audra Keene.”

Maisie stumbled back, her face turning as white as a sheet. “How…”

“Did you receive an acceptance letter?”

Rafe nearly roared, “Of course!”

“Maisie, show them!”

Maisie clawed frantically at her suitcase, her entire body shaking.

She pulled out the unopened envelope from the very bottom and tore it open.

“Found it! Right here!”

She shoved it into their hands.

The attendant took one glance and sighed. “This says Wolfcrest Academy. You’re at the wrong school.”

Maisie froze. Her wolf went rigid.

“What? It’s not Silverfang Academy?!”

Rafe snatched the letter from her hand, his eyes wide as saucers.

“How could it be Wolfcrest Academy?! I filled out the form myself!”

The attendant frowned, looking at the long line forming behind them.

“Could you please step aside? We need to keep moving.”

They shuffled off to the side like wounded strays.

All the hype and flexing from earlier? Vanished.

Only raw, endless humiliation remained.

Vela rolled her eyes. “Maisie, how did you not even know which school accepted you?”

Pale as chalk, Maisie shrank into a corner, reeking of sheer panic.

Mom rushed over. “It’s okay, baby. Just a mix-up.”

Rafe yanked out his phone in a fury and dialed my number.

“Audra!”

I answered. Before I even reached my ear, his scream blasted through the speaker.

“Where the hell are you?!”
