My Rich Boyfriend Wanted Me to Spend More, So I Asked for an Electric Bike Chapter 03

Several of my coworkers crowded closer to look at my phone.

““Wait, that’s my balance. What’s it doing on your phone?”

“Seriously, do you even know how to chase wealth? If you can’t do it, let me take over.”

Vanessa’s expression darkened.

I locked my phone and looked at her awkwardly. “That’s everything. These are all the funds I have.”

“But it’s what’s left of last month’s paycheck. Adrian didn’t give it to me. I earned it, so I get to keep it, right?”

Vanessa clenched her jaw. She clearly wanted to attack me again but couldn’t figure out where to begin.

Then our manager came hurrying over.

“What’s going on here? You’re supposed to be working.”

Vanessa looked him up and down.

“Are you Chloe Carter’s manager? Did you know she’s seeing an engaged man?”

He froze. “But isn’t Chloe Mr. Hale’s—”

Vanessa cut him off with a sharp look.

“I’m Adrian’s fiancée. You think he’d marry someone like her?”

The manager took a closer look at her expensive clothes. When he spoke again, his tone was much more careful.

“And may I have your name?”

“Vanessa Sinclair.”

His whole manner changed.

“Ms. Sinclair! I’m so sorry. I didn’t recognize you.”

Vanessa glanced at me. “Well? What are you going to do about her?”

“I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this. We don’t tolerate that kind of behavior here. This can’t continue on our premises. Please collect your belongings and leave.”

Then he turned on me. “Pack your things and go.”

I stared at him. “But payday’s in a few days. Can’t I stay until then?”

“No!”

My shoulders slumped. “What about my final paycheck?”

He glared at me. “Don’t get your hopes up. You wouldn’t even have this job without Mr. Hale.”

“Ms. Sinclair’s being generous enough to let you walk away, and you still have the nerve to ask for compensation?”

I sighed. “All right. I’ll go.”

Vanessa’s smug smile faltered. “That’s it?”

I nodded. “He’s got a point. I can’t really argue with that.”

I meant it. Adrian really had helped me get the job, so I didn’t feel I had much of a leg to stand on.

That answer only seemed to frustrate Vanessa more. She stared into my eyes as if waiting for something.
