Reading their messages left me completely unmoved.

The car arrived. I reached out to open the door and headed back to the guesthouse without hesitation.

Just as I had finished packing up and was about to leave, Ethan, Sabrina, and the others returned.

Except for Sabrina, everyone was carrying a bag.

Sabrina stepped forward, holding her phone. “Elaine, please don’t be mad, okay? I added you to this photo—look!”

On the large screen of her latest foldable phone was the photo she’d taken at the railway-to-the-sea spot.

Ethan walked over to me. “We’ve got the photos you wanted, and we’ve all come back to find you. Elaine, stop causing trouble, okay?”

Derek looked completely exasperated. “Elaine, you should know when to stop. You’ve completely thrown off our plans! If you keep this up, no one’s going to put up with you anymore!”

Jason also wore a stern expression. “Elaine, you’ve really gone too far today.”

“Sabrina said you were a little jealous of her, and I even spoke up for you—I never thought she was telling the truth.”

I watched as Ethan closed the door, his expression darkening as he stared at me with an overwhelming sense of menace.

“Elaine, it’s just a little thing—are you ever going to let it go?”

I gave a self-deprecating smile.

That was why I felt completely unmoved when I heard him stand up for me in front of a stranger just now.

Every time he publicly stood up for me, I faced even more serious accusations behind the scenes.

Ethan grew even more irritable.

“Can you stop making that face? It’s as if the whole world owes you an apology!”

Ignoring that twinge of pain deep in my heart, I said calmly,

“I told you, go ahead and have fun.”

I turned to go get my suitcase.
