The Forgotten Twin, The One They Beg in Tears Chapter 10

The Forgotten Twin, The One They Beg in Tears Chapter 10

Later, Lucian came to Miami too.

He messaged me, saying he wanted to meet.

When we saw each other again, his gaze held none of its old distance.

“Freya, please sit. It’s my treat.”

I didn’t sit. “Say what you came to say. I have an experiment to finish.”

He fumbled for words about the weather, the campus, anything. I turned toward the door.

Lucian grew anxious.

“Freya… you liked me once, didn’t you?”

My footsteps halted. I glanced back. “I did.”

“The homework help. The stolen snacks. Your promise to protect me forever.”

“I really did like you once.”

“But so what? The moment you stood beside Elowen and accused me of faking for attention, I

stopped liking you.”

The last flicker of expectation died in his eyes.

“Freya, I…”

He was probably about to say sorry again.

But I had no interest in hearing it.

I turned and walked out of the café.

The car to Southvale Academy moved steadily forward.

Palm trees and streets slid past the window–and with them, the ghosts of Northvale that had clung

to me for years.

Once, I’d always waited for people to look back at me.

Not anymore.

The car pulled up at the Academy gates.

I swiped my student ID and walked straight toward the research building.

I buttoned my lab coat and took my place at the bench.

My wolf settled deep within me–not dormant, but at peace.

And my life–truly mine at last–had only just begun.
