The Godfather’s Twenty Year Dream Was Her Chapter 01

The Godfather’s Twenty Year Dream Was Her Chapter 01

The day the divorce was finalized, I walked away with hundreds of millions in assets.

But before I even got the chance to enjoy any of it, I dropped dead.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back in high school.

In the cafeteria, Rafael Moreau—the notorious school bully—was putting on a big show, confessing his love for me.

A crowd of kids clapped and cheered.

Someone ran over to tell Alistair Crane, “Another guy’s hitting on your little childhood sweetheart.”

Alistair, my ex-husband, didn’t bat an eye. “Relax. Her taste isn’t that bad.”

The moment he said that, I snatched the love letter out of Rafael’s hand, terrified he’d change his mind. “I’ll go out with you!”

I’d been young and stupid back then, blind to how good money was. This guy right here was heir to a mafia family!

I wasn’t about to grind from the bottom alongside Alistair ever again.

The boy in front of me still had that lingering teenage edge. Dark brown messy strands fell across his forehead, and a cocky smirk tugged at his lips.

The last time I’d seen Rafael in my past life, he was on a talk show.

Publicly, he was Wall Street’s rising star. Behind closed doors, he was the most powerful young don in the underworld.

He’d been dressed in a sharp tailored suit, oozing quiet refinement—cool, reserved, nothing like the reckless teen standing in front of me now.

Students all around kept cheering, their faces still untouched by the harshness of adulthood.

I was really back in high school.

You’ve gotta be kidding me.

I’d just gotten my hundreds of millions in the divorce settlement, and now I was stuck reliving high school hell?

I was still reeling from the shock when Rafael grew impatient. Even his confession was arrogant.

“Why do you look like you’re ready to die? Is me asking you out that horrifying?”

“So what’s it gonna be? Yes or no? I’m not gonna dump you in the ocean to feed the sharks or anything.”

The onlookers burst out laughing again.

Amid all the noise, I spotted Alistair sitting in the far corner of the cafeteria.

He sat with perfect posture, fully absorbed in a book, giving off an unapproachable vibe that warned everyone to stay away.

I scoffed internally. Total poser.

I happily took the pink love letter he held out. “I said yes.”

The laughter died instantly. Alistair’s book slipped out of his hands and hit the floor.

Even Rafael’s playful grin froze. “What did you say?”

In his head, I was that bookworm girl—studious, pretty, never dated anyone. The kind who’d never agree to go out with him.

I looped my arm through his. “You asked me to be your girlfriend. I said yes.”

I’d lived an extra twenty years. I wasn’t shy anymore.

When he didn’t react, I frowned and pulled my arm away. “Wait, was this just some stupid prank you guys were pulling? If you regret it, you can take the letter back.”

Rafael grabbed my wrist tight, his smile spreading wider. “Whoever backs down’s a coward!”

The school bell rang. Rafael looked like he was in a rush. “I gotta get to class.”

I watched him walk off.

Truth was, we had the same class next period.

I didn’t absorb a single word the teacher said.

I set Rafael’s love letter on my desk.

God, people actually wrote love letters by hand twenty years ago.

Holy hell. This was the future don’s original love letter.

In my past life, I’d been too blind to see what he was. I’d torn this letter up without reading a single line.

I’d chosen the hard path for nothing, slaving away to build an empire with Alistair.

Not this time. I wasn’t working myself to the bone ever again.

I took a deep breath and opened the envelope, curious what heartfelt words he’d written.

I unfolded the paper. There was only one simple line: [Please go out with me. Even just for one day. I’m begging you.]

Me: …

So plainspoken. So earnest.
