His Secret Wife Was My Best Friend Chapter 10

His Secret Wife Was My Best Friend Chapter 10 A Familiar Voice

Instead of going home, Gareth drove straight to Rosemere, the house he’d given Cecily.

It was silent and empty. The furniture was perfectly arranged, but nothing about it felt lived in.

He couldn’t tell how long it had been since Cecily had last stayed there.

He paced restlessly, calling her friends one after another to ask where she was.

None of them knew. She seemed to have disappeared without a trace.

His unease kept growing. After half an hour of circling the living room, he finally gave up and returned to his parents‘ house.

Their fury met him at the door.

Without a word, his father kicked him in the chest. Gareth fell and couldn’t get up for several moments.

His father pointed at him and shouted, “I thought you’d spent all these years learning responsibility. I trusted you with this family and the company. And this is what you do? Humiliate us?

“Mrs. Sutton just called. You cheated before the wedding, and Cecily caught you. That wasn’t enough? You actually married the other woman, then had the nerve to show up for a wedding with Cecily?

“How did I raise someone with so much arrogance and so little shame?”

Gareth remained on his knees. With tearful eyes, Daphne rushed over and knelt beside him.

“It’s not his fault. It’s mine! I’m pregnant. Gareth only wanted to keep his child.”

“What?”

His parents stared in shock.

None of the turmoil back home reached Cecily on the other side of the continent.

In Greyhaven, rain fell steadily.

She had rented a detached house with a small yard. Just as she finished settling in, her new colleague Colette called.

“The CEO has several meetings today. He asked me to tell you how sorry he is that he couldn’t meet you at the airport.

“He also said that if there’s anything you need, you should call me anytime.”

Cecily smiled and thanked her.

“That’s very kind. I know the area well, though. I’ll be fine getting what I need.”

Colette confirmed the office address and working hours before ending the call.

Only after hanging up did it fully sink in. Cecily really had left her family and Gareth behind.

Abandoning her half–unpacked suitcase, she lay back on the bed and thought about Ms. Wren’s email, imagining the fury in both households.

The nightmare of the past few weeks, followed by more than 10 hours of travel, had exhausted her.

She fell asleep without realizing it. The next thing she heard was the doorbell.

Drawing back the curtains, she looked down and saw a tall man in a fitted gray coat standing at the gate beneath an umbrella.

As though sensing her, he tilted the umbrella up, revealing a striking, handsome face.

The moment he spotted her, his eyes lit with a warmth that outshone the sun hidden behind the clouds.

“Cecily.”

She read the name on his lips. He lifted a paper bag for her to see.

Delighted, she hurried downstairs and let him in.

“Didn’t Colette say you were in meetings all day?”

Benedict Fenton closed his umbrella and handed her the bag.

“It’s been a long time since you were in Greyhaven. I wouldn’t feel right without coming to check on you myself.”

He rested a hand gently on her head, his expression warm.

“It’s good to see you again, Cecily.”
