He Said I Was Overreacting, I Said I Was Over Him Chapter 01

I was out shopping with my boyfriend when I casually mentioned my stomach was acting up. Without a word, he pulled a pill organizer out of his bag.

Pain relievers, allergy medicines, band-aids—everything was neatly sorted inside the compact case.

I blinked in surprise. “When’d you get so thoughtful??”

He shook out two pills into his palm. “Ask your bestie. She’s the one who says a guy’s bag has to have backup medicines to be considered reliable.”

“She’s way too hard to please.”

I glanced at the organizer, then turned into a coffee shop. “Large Mango Latte, please.”

He scanned the menu and frowned. “Mango? Don’t get that one.”

I simply nodded and didn’t argue with him.

But once we were outside, I broke up with him on the spot.

He let out a bitter laugh. “Seriously? You’re dumping me because I didn’t let you get a Mango Latte?”

I nodded. “Yes. That’s exactly why.”

Lucas sighed. “Fine, babe. I’ll go get it for you.”

As he turned away, he pulled out his phone and sent a voice message.

Lucas: [She’s picking a fight with me out of nowhere again. Got any advice for me?]

I couldn’t catch the rest of what he said.

But a few minutes later, my bestie Zoe called out of the blue and said, “Anna, Lucas hasn’t slept well for days. Cut him some slack, okay? His project wraps up in a few days, I promise. You can be as petty as you want then, and we’ll all play along with you.”

I asked coldly, “How do you know he hasn’t been sleeping well?”

Zoe let out an exaggerated sigh, sounding like she was dealing with a stubborn, unreasonable child. “Don’t be jealous. You’re not really suspecting us, right?”

Her voice was so casual and natural, like she was the wronged one. “Fine, if deleting Lucas will make you feel better, I’ll do it now, my princess.”

Later, she even sent me a screenshot proving she’d delete him.

Just then, Lucas came back holding a Mango Latte, offering it to me like a peace treaty. “I told them to go heavy on the mango. Happy now?”

I stared at him for a few seconds. “You drink it.”

He hesitated. “No. It’s for you. Babe, just take it.”

Before he could finish his sentence, I knocked the cup right out of his hand.

Lucas froze in shock. A few passersby turned to stare at us.

I could hear their whispers. “Wow, that girl’s got a bad temper. She threw a fit for that drink, and now that her boyfriend bought it, she just smacks it out of his hand?”

“Total red flag. I would’ve broken up with her ages ago if she was my girlfriend.”

“See that? He’s been carrying her shopping bags all afternoon, and she didn’t even say thanks.”

Lucas’s face darkened. He spun around and snapped at the onlookers, “Mind your own business! I don’t care if she throws a tantrum—she’s my girl and I don’t mind taking care of her!”

Then he forced a smile and reached for my hand. “Anna, forget the drink. Let’s just go home, okay? Too many people are staring and gossiping.”

I pulled out a tissue and wiped my hands. “We’re broken up. There’s no point living together anymore. Come pick up your stuff at my place tomorrow.”

Lucas stared at me in disbelief. “Wait, what? Just because I had a pill organizer and I didn’t let you order the Mango Latte?”

I held up my phone and showed him the screenshot Zoe had just sent. “Here’s one more thing. Add this to the list. That’s why I’m done with you.”

He frowned, leaning in and lowering his voice. “Zoe? What does she have to do with us? Did I piss her off, so now you’re taking her side?”

“Anna, come on, be real. I’ve been working overtime for a month. This is my first day off, and I spent the entire day coming to see you.”

“If you’re in a bad mood, fine, take it out on me all you want. Just don’t joke about breaking up with me.”

I looked at him calmly. “I never joke about this stuff.”

I turned and walked away.

Lucas called my name over and over, chasing me all the way to the parking lot, where we ran straight into Zoe, who had just arrived.
