He Showed No Mercy When I Gave Birth Chapter 09 The New Saintess

Soon, the celebration banquet for the new Saintess arrived.

In place of my late mother, Father lit the torch. Passing the flame marked the transfer of power from the old Saintess to the new one.

But Father hesitated.

“You are grown now. I promised your mother I would respect your choice. Once the ceremony begins, there is no turning back. Are you sure this is what you want?”

The clansmen looked at me with trust and expectation.

Elias Vane stood nearby, his eyes gentle, his love impossible to hide.

Looking at them, I felt tears blur my vision.

The past had already turned to ash.

The life ahead of me would be free.

It would be bright.

And it would belong to me.

“Father, let’s begin.”

I had just taken the torch from Father’s hand when Adrian’s broken voice rang out from the entrance.”Iris, don’t marry another man. I can’t live without you!”

I had no idea what Adrian had done, but somehow, his face had returned to normal.

After days of digging for answers, Adrian had finally learned what the duty of a Saintess of the Blood Witch Clan meant. The moment he found out, he came straight here.

He tried to rush onto the altar like a madman.

The clansmen stopped him.

“Iris, you’re my wife. You’re mine in life and mine in death. Who gave you the right to marry someone else?

“If you abandon me, I’ll jump from here with our son.”

He held the bone chimes in his hand and turned toward the cliff.

Elias stopped him before he could get there.

His eyes were colder than ice.

“I’m not saving you. I just don’t want you staining the Blood Witch Clan’s land.”

Adrian froze.

Then he looked at me.

My gaze was calm and distant.

His eyes moved between Elias and me, back and forth, until they turned red.

“Iris, it’s him, isn’t it? He’s the one taking you away from me!”

He reached for me.

Elias slapped his hand away without mercy.

Adrian did not even look at Elias.

He only looked at me, hurt and desperate.

“Iris, you don’t care about me anymore. You didn’t even ask how I am. You didn’t ask whether I’m dying.

“I trusted Rosalie too much. I thought she was truly weak, so I panicked and had your blood drawn to save her. But the final dose wasn’t wasted. I listened to you. I received the transfusion.

“It was a month late, but look at me. I’m fine now. I came, just like I promised, to take you home.”

My heart did not move at all.

My voice stayed calm.

“Adrian Sterling, this is my home. Have you forgotten? You were the one who told me not to call myself Mrs. Sterling,

“It’s good that you didn’t die. You should spend the rest of your life trapped in regret. Every day. Every moment. That’s only fair.”

I looked at him with a mocking smile.

“And my son? Since when was he your son?

“You were the one who kept calling him a bastard child.”

Only after his body recovered did Adrian finally understand that my blood had truly saved him.

All this time, he had been wrong about me.

Adrian shook his head, regret written all over his face.

“No, No, that’s not true. Rosalie deceived me. I was angry. I lost my mind. That was why I said those things.

“I’m sorry. I hurt you and our son. But can’t you give me one more chance? You loved me so much once.”

Elias could not listen anymore.

He took my hand and led me away.

Behind us, the iron gate shut with a heavy clang.

Adrian’s cries faded behind it.

Still, Adrian refused to leave.

He knelt outside the gate for eight days and eight nights.

In the end, the storm broke him before his obsession did.

He collapsed on the ground.

The Sterling family arrived just in time and took him away.
