After My Brother’s Girlfriend Tried to Extort 500,000 from Me, I Revealed I Was the Mafia Donna Chapter 04

When the car stopped outside the Gold Coast house, the music inside was loud enough to make the windows tremble.

The front door was ajar.

I’d barely reached the steps when I heard a familiar voice coming from inside.

Vanessa.

She’d somehow beaten me there.

“All I did was ask her to pay her bill. She threw a card at me, then had Marco sack me. Luca, she’s got no respect for you. She only did it to humiliate me.”

A chorus of agreement rose around the living room.

Most of Luca’s so-called friends came from Families that did business with the Morettis. They were always drinking with him, racing cars or gambling at card tables.

All they knew was that Luca was the young Moretti heir everyone saw in public.

As for me, I was just the sister who rarely showed her face.

Some had even openly called me Luca’s father’s illegitimate daughter.

One man laughed.

“Luca, if you can’t even keep one woman in line, why would anyone listen to you?”

Another man immediately joined in.

“Exactly. So what if she’s a few years older and kept the Family books for a while? Sort her out, then.”

I stood outside the door and listened without a word.

Then I heard Luca’s voice. He was speaking softly, trying to comfort Vanessa.

“Stop crying. I won’t let her treat you like that.”

Vanessa sniffled.

“She even said she was your sister.”

The living room erupted in laughter.

Luca was silent for a few seconds before saying, “When I find her, I’ll make her apologise to you to your face. Will that do?”

Someone immediately chimed in.

“Now that’s more like a Moretti man. She needs to learn who actually makes the decisions around here.”

I closed my eyes for a moment.

The last of my patience was gone.

I raised one hand, and the guards behind me pushed the doors open.

The music stopped abruptly.

Dozens of pairs of eyes turned towards the entrance at once.

I walked in, one step at a time.

“No need to look for me. I’m here.”

The entire living room fell silent.

Luca still had Vanessa in his arms. The moment he saw me, all the colour drained from his face.

“Isa?”

I didn’t answer.

The click of my heels against the marble floor rang through the silent room.

Vanessa froze at first. Then she clung tighter to Luca, as though she were certain he would protect her.

She pointed at me.

“That’s her, Luca. That’s the woman. She came into your restaurant pretending to be one of the Morettis, then threatened me.”

Several of the men around them frowned.

One of them said impatiently, “So this is that sister of yours? She doesn’t look like anyone important. Women are nothing but trouble.”

I tilted my head and looked at him.

He shut his mouth at once.

Not because he’d recognised me, but because the four men behind me had already moved into formation.

They were among the Moretti Family’s most trusted guards. That formation was reserved for escorting the highest-ranking members of the Family.

Luca clearly understood what it meant.

He rose from the sofa.

“Isa, what are you doing here?”

I finally looked at him.

“Weren’t you just saying you’d make me apologise to your girlfriend? Well, I’m here. Go on, then.”
