Not Their Daughter, Just the Mistress Chapter 10

Not Their Daughter, Just the Mistress Chapter 10

I woke up in an abandoned junkyard. The air was thick with gasoline.

My stomach wouldn’t stop rolling. The fumes made it worse.

I shook my head to clear it and checked the comments.

[Everett landed in Havenridge thirty minutes ago for an urgent deal. He’s already abandoned it and is racing

back.]

[She did save his life, after all. Makes sense he’d drop everything.]

[The sidepiece is an idiot too. She actually fell for a faked phone call. Now she gets to sit there and wait for the FMC to rescue her, nearly die on the operating table, and trigger Everett’s emotional awakening, right before he destroys her…]

Maybe nobody should come.

Three thugs with neck tattoos were watching me from across the room.

The last thing I needed was Sloane actually showing up. So I started working the guards for information.

Kessler’s people. Of course.

While they were eating, I found a jagged piece of scrap metal and started sawing at the rope around my

wrists.

I was one thread away from being free.

A gunshot cracked from the far end of the yard.

Sloane. Alone. Every head in the room snapped toward the sound.

One of the thugs dropped his food, rushed over, and jammed a blade against my throat.

…So much for my escape plan.

He cracked me across the face for good measure.

“You fucking bitch! You think you can pull that shit with me watching?!”

They retied the rope, tighter this time, and jabbed a syringe into my neck.

My limbs went heavy. The drug was already pulling me under. I screamed toward the door with everything I

had left.

“Get out of here! I don’t need your help!”

The Kesslers had guns too, more of them. Sloane was going to get herself killed.

She didn’t listen. She turned on me instead, tears burning in her eyes

“You think I want to save you?! He sent me! He told me to bring you back alive, no matter what!”

Then she charged in.

The comments were drowning in sympathy for her.

The blade at my throat pressed deeper.

…Did she actually want me alive?

The syndicate had a small army. And she came alone?

Forget it. I’d just die here.

My skull was on fire. I let my eyes fall shut, and a hand shot out from behind the oil drum next to me.

It grabbed me and yanked me free.
