Raising The SSS-Risk Beast That Only Pretends To Be Tame Chapter 05

Raising The SSS-Risk Beast That Only Pretends To Be Tame Chapter 05

Morgan came over to my house again.

After dinner, the three of us sat in the living room.

Mom was cracking nuts. Morgan was sipping tea. I was peeling an apple.

Mom gave me a kick under the table.

“Chloe, you’re not getting any younger,” she said. “Morgan’s such a good catch. Stable job. Good

personality. And he’s good to you. What more do you want?”

Morgan sat across from me, holding his teacup, looking at me with warm eyes.

“Chloe,” he said, “should we give it a try?”

I smiled. Opened my mouth. Ready to say-

Yes.

The live chat exploded out of nowhere.

[The monster got out-]

[Not got out. BLEW out. The whole containment unit-doors, walls, everything-gone.]

[The facility is in pieces. There’s a sixty-foot crater in the ground.]

[Seventeen researchers injured. Three confirmed dead.]

[He’s out.]

[Girl! Do NOT bleed. No one knows if he still remembers you.]

[As long as you don’t bleed, he can’t find you.]

The chat stunned me. My hand froze for a split second-then the knife slipped.

Across my ring finger.

The cut wasn’t deep, but the blood came anyway. Beading up. Then-

Drip.

It landed on my clothes.

Shit. Shit, shit, shit.

I can’t bleed. Not now.

I clamped my other hand over it fast.

“Oh, you clumsy thing!” Mom stood up and went for a paper towel. “You’re a grown woman, how do you still cut yourself peeling an apple-”

I didn’t let her finish.

I shot up from my seat.

“Chloe?” Morgan looked up at me, confused.

I turned and walked straight to the door.

I couldn’t put Mom in danger.

I couldn’t let Seventeen find this place.

Footsteps behind me.

“Chloe!” Morgan ran after me. “Chloe, what’s wrong?”

He caught up and reached for my arm.

I stepped back.

“Get the hell away from me,” I said. “Stay back. Don’t come near me.

He froze, startled, standing a few feet away.

“Okay, okay,” he said. “I’m not coming closer. Just tell me what’s going on.

“Listen to me.” My voice was shaking. “The lab I used to work at… there was an experiment. Subject-17. He’s dangerous. He got out today. He can track the smell of blood. I just bled. You need to stay as far away from me as possible. As far as you can-”

Morgan looked at me and let out a helpless laugh.

“I’ve been studying animal behavior for over a decade,” he said. “I’ve never heard of anything like

“You don’t understand.”

“Fine,” he said, raising his hands in surrender. “I don’t understand. But if he’s as dangerous as you say, then let’s go somewhere safe. The lab has an isolation chamber. It blocks out scents.”

[Go.]

[An isolated lab should block his tracking.]
