Not Their Daughter, Just the Mistress Chapter 01

Not Their Daughter, Just the Mistress Chapter 01

I found out I was pregnant the same day I found out I wasn’t the Hale family’s biological daughter.

Lucky me. The baby’s father was a crime boss with more money than God.

I wasn’t built for struggle. So my desperate little plan was to wave that pregnancy test in his face and lock him down.

That’s when the comments flashed before my eyes.

[Lmao, does this doomed sidepiece actually think the MMC is gonna marry her just because she’s pregnant?]

[This is too good. Everett only thinks he loves her because she saved his life. She’s the only one who doesn’t know it’s not real.]

[The FMC is the biological daughter; she’s been disguised as a man this whole time, working as Everett’s right-hand man. She’s always been in love with him but too insecure to say it. Once she finds out she’s the true Hale, she drugs him and sleeps with him!]

[His reaction kills me too. He rejects the FMC because he thinks he’s actually in love with that spoiled little drama queen. Later the FMC gets seriously hurt protecting him, and Everett loses it and feeds the drama queen AND the baby in her belly to his pet lion…]

The glass slipped from my hand and shattered across the floor.

Everett Vaughn really did keep a white lion on the estate. A full-grown one.

A gift from Sloane Mercer, his right-hand woman, who’d never once hidden the fact that she hated me.

“Babe, what’d I do now?”

I’d been reaching for the pregnancy test in my pocket. But in the split second Everett looked away, my hand twitched, and I smashed the glass instead.

My first instinct was to throw a tantrum and demand he get rid of the beast.

The comments lit up again.

[Go ahead, you dumb bitch, keep pushing! Everett hasn’t figured out his real feelings yet. The second you bring up the white lion, he’ll realize you’re not the one he loves!]

[That lion is basically their love child. He is obsessed with it.]

[She’s also delusional if she thinks a baby will trap him. Everett couldn’t care less about some illegitimate kid, okay? When he finds out, he’ll take care of it himself…]

[Please let this idiot keep digging her own grave until he snaps and puts a bullet in her!]

Every word died in my throat.

I stumbled back and nearly stepped straight into the broken glass.

Everett caught me before I did.

He let out a breath like I’d scared the hell out of him, then pulled me close.

“Babe, I swear I wasn’t blowing off the auction last time. Something came up on the way, and I got there too late…”

“No, no, it wasn’t your fault!”

My fingers crushed the pregnancy test deeper into my coat pocket. The bratty act I usually wore like armor was gone.

“Everett, you don’t owe me any of that. Everything before, that was all me… I was just acting out. I’m sorry!”

I didn’t wait for his answer. I bolted upstairs and locked the bedroom door behind me.

The comments kept echoing: the part about saving his life.

Three years ago, I found Everett half-dead in the rain. Beaten to hell, slumped against a dumpster.

I was a germaphobe. But God, he was gorgeous, so I saved him anyway.

The doctor at the private hospital said the head trauma had left him temporarily blind.

He was feral the entire time. Cursed me out every time he heard me walk in.

He told me to piss off when I fed him. To drop dead when I changed his clothes.

I was furious. I was paying for the privilege of being treated like garbage.

So at the end of that month, while he was asleep, I drugged him, tied him to the headboard, and took what I wanted.

At first, Everett swore he was going to kill me.

Halfway through, he went quiet.

By the end, his throat bobbed and he asked, his voice a rough rasp:

“Are we… done here?”

His eyes locked on me, hungry, dark, nothing cautious left. “If your arms are tired, untie me. I’ll take it from here.”

…Everett could see again.

Every nerve in my body went cold.

I scrambled to get away, but he snapped the ropes like they were nothing, grabbed my ankle, and dragged me back.

No one had ever touched my nape before.

He bit down without mercy, and when I sobbed from the sting of it, he pulled me back into his lap and didn’t let me go until morning.
