99 Times Repeated, Not Once Did They Say I Love You Chapter 05

I had no idea what was going on in the class group chat.

At that moment, Stone was on the phone with me, and her voice trembled with excitement. “Hazel, you’re

S-rank. You’re the best wolf in the school, maybe in this entire generation of young wolves!”

She barely paused for breath. “Several schools have already reached out. Do you know Silver Moon

Academy? The one that trains Alphas.

“Their representative wants to talk to you in person. Are you home right now? Is it okay if someone comes

by?”

Compared to her excitement, I was calm. Elara and I had both seen this coming.

Stone kept going. “Oh, and you don’t have a pack right now, do you? I have numbers for several pack Betas

here, and they’re all very interested in your future.”

I cut in. “No need. I’ve already decided. I’m joining Dreadmoor Pack.”

Stone sounded surprised. “Dreadmoor Pack? But I heard their Alpha is already…”

“Too weak to fight anymore. I know.”

A weak Alpha couldn’t protect her pack.

So when my family came for me, Seraphine sent me off without a second thought. She thought I’d have a

good life with them.

Stone seemed surprised that I’d decided so fast. After a short silence on the line, she said, “Alright. I’ll tell the others not to bother. But don’t you dare miss the call from Silver Moon Academy.”

The moment I hung up, I realized my hands were shaking.

Ninety-nine resets had finally brought me the best possible outcome.

This time, I was going to college for real.

A few minutes later, the phone rang again.

I assumed it was Silver Moon Academy and answered without looking. Instead, I heard my mother’s bright,

cheerful voice.

“Hazel, why didn’t you tell the family you’re an S-rank wolf?”

I hung up on the spot.

The day I cut ties with the Lioraens, I blocked every one of them.

I didn’t know whose phone she’d borrowed, but that was an easy fix. I blocked that number, too.

Then the phone rang again.

Worried it might actually be Silver Moon Academy this time, I picked up.

This time it was my father.

His tone was almost indulgent. “Still mad?”

“Your mother and I aren’t holding the past against you. Come home. We’ll throw you a proper send-off and

get the whole pack involved. We’ll make it special. Everyone should know the Lioraen daughter is an S-rank

wolf.”

I hung up on him, too.

Suddenly, I remembered the first time I’d placed first.

My parents hadn’t been happy at all.

Maeve cried because her scores were lower than mine. She felt like she’d been shown up, and somehow that

made me the problem.

Everyone blamed me for doing too well and making Maeve feel bad.

Silas even tried to report me for cheating.

The second time, I’d learned my lesson and tanked the exam on purpose.

Maeve didn’t cry that time, but my parents were still furious, because I’d embarrassed them.

When I did well, they blamed me.

When I did badly, they blamed me too.

I spent a long time searching for a middle ground that never existed.

Then I finally understood.

It had never been about my scores.

They didn’t like me.

Even a perfect score wouldn’t have been enough.

So when my father started talking about a send-off, all I could do was laugh. Wasn’t he worried Maeve might

get her feelings hurt?

Then I caught myself.

What did I care?

I had already cut ties with them. My scores had nothing to do with the Lioraens anymore.

What I didn’t expect was to finish my paperwork to join Dreadmoor Pack, walk out the front door, and find my

parents waiting.
