Jase immediately fell silent.

After firing Hannah, Jase came to Willow Creek again.

I had just gotten ready to go out with Chloe and Riley.

The moment we stepped out of the apartment building, Jase called out to us.

“Emma.”

Riley turned around.

The moment she saw Jase, she ran toward him with a smile.

“Dad!”

Jase picked her up.

“Did Riley miss Daddy?”

“Yes!”

My three–year–old daughter still knew nothing.

She didn’t know her parents‘ relationship had already reached its end.

She didn’t know her parents were about to get divorced.

Jase looked at me.

“Emma, Hannah has already been fired.”

“I won’t have anything to do with her anymore.”

I cut him off.

“Lauren fired Hannah, not you.”

“Jase, don’t take credit for something you couldn’t even bring yourself to do.”

His eyes flashed with embarrassment.

“Anyway, Hannah is already gone.”

“Can you give me another chance?”

“I really missed you these past few days.”

He said he missed me.

But the number above his head was still stuck at 63%.

I waved at Riley.

“Come on. We’re going to the children’s amusement park.”

Riley struggled out of Jase’s arms.

“Dad, we’re going to the amusement park.”

By the time we came back from the amusement park…

Jase was already gone.

Hannah had a fever.

She had cried and called him.

And he hadn’t hesitated for even a second.

He bought the earliest flight back and rushed over to take care of her.

Lauren sent me Hannah’s IG.

The photo showed Jase wearing an apron, carefully preparing a nutritious meal for her in the kitchen.

Lauren messaged me.

“Mrs. Holloway, I wanted to convince you to give him another chance before.”

“I think leaving him is the right choice.”

I never expected that three days later, Jase would actually agree to the divorce.

He called me from a new number.

He said he had already signed the Divorce Agreement.

“All the assets will go to you.”

“Riley’s custody rights will belong to you.”

His voice sounded exhausted.

“The previous Divorce Agreement was torn up by me.”

“Come back whenever you’re free.”

I was shocked.

“Jase, weren’t you refusing to agree before?”

A quiet laugh came from the other end of the phone.

There was something in that laugh I couldn’t understand.

So I bought a flight home that same day.

Chloe tried to stop me.

“Are you sure Jase isn’t planning something?”

I hesitated.

But in the end, I still decided to go back and see what was happening.

By the time I arrived home, it was already dark.

The moment I opened the door, the smell of cigarette smoke hit me.

The living room lights were off.

I turned on the light.
