The Moretti Family’s Useless Eighth Daughter Was Actually a Hidden Powerhouse Chapter 01

In my previous life, I had been heir to Europe’s largest empire, and I knew how to do just about everything.

Fifty-eight languages, hand-to-hand combat, even driving an armored vehicle. They were all on my curriculum.

So, naturally, I dropped dead at twenty-five.

When I got a second chance at life and saw my seven ridiculously talented brothers in the Moretti family, I cried tears of pure happiness.

If the sky fell, seven people could hold it up. Anyone who wanted to compete could go right ahead without me.

That was why I skipped every private lesson my parents arranged for me.

From kindergarten all the way through college, my parents became a running joke in New York’s underworld.

They got so furious that they signed me up for even more classes. I still didn’t budge.

Until today, when eight rival families from different countries laid a chain of traps meant to kill us all.

Alessandro’s enormous accounts were frozen, Matteo’s international network was cut off, and Enzo’s entire security team was disarmed.

Even Elio, the most relentless of the seven, had been forced to reveal every card he had.

The opposing side slapped an asset-acquisition agreement onto the table.

“Sign it, and the Moretti family goes completely bankrupt. Or every one of you leaves one hand behind.”

My parents dropped their gazes in despair. My seven brothers’ eyes went bloodshot.

I blinked.

You’ve got to be kidding me. How was I supposed to spend the rest of my life as a trust-fund mafia princess now?

I set down my handheld game console, walked from the back row to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.

Everyone froze.

I looked at the eight representatives and greeted them in Sicilian, English, French, and German, one after another.

“Don Salvatore of Palermo. Old George of London. Clément of Marseille. Heinrich of Munich.”

After casually naming the four absolute secrets behind their conspiracy, I laced my fingers together and said in a mild voice,

“Tell me, gentlemen. Are those four old men still alive?”

“Don Vittorio, sign it. At least this way, everyone can walk away with some dignity.”

Damian Falcone’s voice was soft, almost elegant.

He sat at the head of the Moretti Group’s top-floor conference room, a small cup of freshly delivered espresso beside him.

The smell of coffee filled the room, but it did nothing to ease the suffocating danger in the air.

Across the long table, my father, Vittorio Moretti, looked deathly pale.

He stared at the 300-page cross-border asset-transfer agreement in front of him. His bloodshot eyes showed how many nights he had gone without sleep.

I was curled up on a sofa in the corner, my head down as I worked the buttons on my vintage game console.

Tetris blocks dropped across the screen. One row disappeared with a crisp electronic chime.

In the silent conference room, it sounded painfully loud.

No one turned to look at me.

To them, I, Alessia Moretti, was the most worthless child in the Moretti family.

In reality, I had been the heir to the largest empire in the world.

Fifty-eight languages, hand-to-hand combat, business negotiations, firearms, even driving an armored vehicle.

That life had been exhausting. So, at twenty-five, I had simply dropped dead at a negotiation table.

When I opened my eyes again, I discovered that I had been reborn into one of New York’s oldest and most powerful mafia dynasties: the Moretti family.

The best part was that I had seven brothers above me, each more terrifyingly driven than the last.

My oldest brother, Alessandro Moretti, had taken over Moretti Capital at twenty-two. As our father’s most trusted underboss, he was notorious on Wall Street for being impossible to cross.

Matteo Moretti was the family’s youngest consigliere, with connections in politics and business that were almost frightening.

After retiring, Enzo Moretti had taken over all of the family’s security operations and turned them into a multinational private-security group.

Even our youngest brother, Elio Moretti, was a world-class hacker and a cryptography prodigy.

The moment I saw the seven of them, I was so touched I nearly cried.

For once, someone else could carry the load.
