My Boyfriend & BFF Pranked Me At Our Wedding, I Dumped Both Of Them Chapter 04

Ethan called Nora like a madman.

Again and again, there was only the cold automated message on the other end.

He slid down to the floor against the entryway wall, the note crumpled in his grip, his breathing ragged as if he were drowning.

“Impossible… How could she really leave?”

But everything that belonged to her was already gone.

She hadn’t even taken the wedding dress she had treasured most all these years, as if she had thrown away the future they had once talked about along with it.

Ethan buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking violently.

The sobs he had held back for so long finally tore out of his throat. He hunched over, crying so hard he could barely breathe.

His phone kept buzzing with team messages, urging him to confirm the afternoon’s shooting script.

He grabbed the phone. “No more filming. I don’t want the account anymore. I’m going to find

Nora.”

When Vanessa arrived, he had already searched the whole apartment, just wanting to find out where Nora had gone.

“Where are you going to look if you go out now?” Vanessa stopped him. “She’s still furious. She definitely wouldn’t leave you her destination.”

Ethan’s eyes were red. “Then I’ll go to the airport, the train station. I’ll search place by place.”

Vanessa was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, “Actually, we can think of a way. Use her mother being sick to trick her into coming back. When she’s back, you can apologize to

her face.”

Ethan paused and looked at her hesitantly. “Joking about her mother’s health – isn’t that a bit

much?”

“It’s not like she’s really sick.” Vanessa coaxed him. “You just want to see her. When she comes back, you explain everything clearly and coax her properly. Would she really not forgive you?”

She held her phone out to him again. “And you can’t just throw the account away. Film one last time, finish this one. Once the money’s in, you’ll have more confidence for the wedding. Wasn’t that what she used to complain about, that you cared more about making money than about her? This time, once you’ve made it, you stop.”

Ethan stared at the shooting plan on the screen and said nothing for a long time.

Finally, he said hoarsely, “Just this one last time.”

He told himself over and over: one last time. Once he’d saved enough money, he would go beg Nora for forgiveness and never let her suffer again.

Vanessa borrowed a stranger’s number.

Ethan first tricked Nora’s parents into leaving the house, then timed the call to her boarding time and dialed.

Nora’s POV:

I had already settled into my seat on the plane and was about to switch my phone to airplane mode when it suddenly rang.

It was a strange number.

I answered. Before I could say anything, I heard Ethan shouting my name.

“Nora! Your mom collapsed! Come back quickly!”

I gripped the phone tight. “What did you say?”

“She’s at home. She was fine just now, then suddenly collapsed. She won’t wake up no matter how we call her!”

“Call an ambulance! Where’s my dad?”

“I did. Your dad went downstairs to meet the ambulance. Nora, you have to come back…”

There was a sudden commotion on the other end, and Ethan’s voice dropped. “Wait… Mrs. Carter? Mrs. Carter!”

“Ethan?” I stood up, my knee hitting the seat in front of me. “What’s wrong with my mom? Say something!”

The other end went silent for twc

“She’s not breathing… Nora, the ambulance isn’t here yet. You have to come back!”

My mind went blank. I rushed to the cabin door and begged the staff to let me off the plane.

As I ran out, I kept dialing my mom and dad. One line was busy, the other went unanswered.

When I reached the building where my parents lived, my legs were so weak I could barely stand, my heart about to jump out of my throat.

I burst through the door, and a party popper exploded overhead.

“Surprise!”

Vanessa aimed a camera at me. Ethan held a cake, and when he saw me, he let out a breath of relief.

“Sorry, Nora. We had no other way. You blocked me. I just wanted you to come back.”

I looked at them coldly, leaning against the wall, my hands shaking so badly it took me three tries to unlock my phone and finally call my mom.

“Nora?” Her voice was gentle and clear. “What’s wrong? I’m at the market with your dad.”

I bit my lip hard. “Nothing… I just missed you.”

After hanging up, I steadied myself against the wall, still breaking out in cold sweat.

Vanessa was still filming. I knocked the camera out of her hand, staggered forward, and slapped Ethan across the face.

“You lied about my mom’s life. Are you even human?”

Ethan held his face, as if only now realizing what he had done. “I just wanted to keep you…”

“This is my parents’ house.” I picked up the camera and stopped the recording. “Get out.”

He reached out to pull me. I stepped back and picked up my phone. “I’m calling security right

now.”

Ethan finally didn’t dare move forward.
