My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 01

My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 01 The Forty–Eight–Hour Countdown.

I leaned in with a smile when we got our marriage license at City Hall, but Shane Sterling suddenly pulled away.

“Your team ran a raid yesterday. I saw you.”

I froze, blurting out instinctively, “How could you? That vice sting was top secret…”

He nodded, completely unfazed.

“While you were inspecting the room next door, I had her pinned against the wall.

“The girl was shaking even harder than her first time. She didn’t dare make a sound until you were called away.”

Following his adoring gaze, I turned to the girl standing across from us, holding a camera to document the moment.

My world shattered.

It was Wynne Frost–the hostage my father had taken seven stab wounds to save during a kidnapping case.

Just moments ago, she had cried and sworn to me, “Liz, if he ever makes you feel wronged, I’ll pay him back with my life.”

Shane calmly stepped in front of me, blocking my view. His voice was disarmingly gentle.

“Now it’s your turn to choose. Do we finish getting married…

“or would you rather cry for a bit and try another day?”

My blood ran cold. Inside my head, the system’s mechanical alarm exploded.

Warning: Ten–Year Romance System. Marriage registration mission failed. Erasure protocol initiating. Countdown: 48 hours.

I stood paralyzed, a chill seeping straight to my core.

Nausea surged in my chest as darkness edged my vision.

Shane caught me, his thumb lightly brushing away a tear from my cheek.

“You’re about to be a mother. Why are you still so dramatic?”

Anguish sliced through me like a blade. I stared at him. “Why… why today of all days?”

Shane paused. His eyes drifted past me to Wynne, his tone dropping to a whisper.

“I meant to keep lying to you forever.

“But she was always left outside, taking photos for the two of us, smiling so bravely. I just couldn’t bring myself to be so cruel to her anymore.”

He paused, adding, “I owe her far too much. As for you, I’ve already given you a child to make up for it…”

A wire snapped in my brain. “What do you mean… given me a child to make up for it?”

Shane spoke casually, as if talking about the weather.

“Your last miscarriage happened because some lube we used accidentally spilled on the stairs.”

My mind detonated.

I had spent months believing I lost the baby because I rushed off to a police operation.

After the miscarriage, I cried myself to sleep every night. Every single time, Shane had wrapped his arms around me, whispering soothing promises.

It was all a lie.

I bit my lip so hard that blood filled my mouth. Raising my hand, I slapped him across the face with everything I had.

Shane took the blow without flinching. If anything, he let out a long sigh of relief.

“I’m glad it’s finally out in the open. I don’t want Wynne suffering in secret anymore.

“She’s young. If you’re angry, take it out on me.”

Like a woman possessed, I tore off my ceremonial veil.

His eyes glistened red, yet his voice held a strange, liberated ease.

“Looks like you’ve made your choice. We’ll get the license another day. After ten years, a few more days won’t make a difference.”

His retreating footsteps overlapped with the cold prompt in my mind.

Tenth Anniversary: Marriage registration deadline expired. Mission failed. Erasure protocol initiating. Countdown: 48 hours.

The next second, Wynne lowered her camera and looked at me.

“Liz, why aren’t you smiling? You’re the most beautiful bride today!”

She looked around, finally sensing the suffocating silence, her voice trembling.

“Liz… you know?”

With blood–red eyes, I offered her a smile filled with pure bitterness.

Wynne suddenly raised the camera and hurled it straight at Shane.

Shane didn’t even dodge.

Her eyes were bloodshot, her voice dissolving into a frantic scream.

“I told you I never cared about a title!

“How dare you confess today!

“How could you hurt her like this?!”
