They Made Me the Knight, But I Became My Own Princess Chapter 06

The Farley household descended into chaos.

News that the Keatons’ eldest son had taken the Farleys’ neglected older daughter overseas to marry him spread through their entire social circle overnight.

The relatives and business partners who had once rushed to curry favor with the Farleys now

treated them as a public joke.

“I heard Mr. and Mrs. Farley actually held an engagement banquet at a hotel, and the groom’s family never even showed up.”

“Exactly. They insisted on handing the engagement to their younger daughter, but Mr. Keaton refused to play along.”

“They tried to steal the prize and lost everything instead.”

Every word of gossip reached the Farley family.

Sadie had locked herself in her room for 3 days. She refused to eat or drink and smashed anything she could reach whenever someone approached.

“Get out! All of you, get out! I don’t want to see you laughing at me!”

Outside her door, Mom held a tray of food and wiped away tears.

“Sadie, please open the door. Eat something, even if it’s only a little. What if you ruin your health?”

A glass struck the inside of the door with a dull thud.

“I’m not eating! You promised the engagement was mine. Why did Wade take her away? You’re all

liars!”

Mom sagged helplessly against the wall.

Dad emerged from the study. His eyes were bloodshot. He clearly hadn’t slept well for days. “Enough. Let her throw her tantrum. Several major clients have pulled their funding over this mess. Now everyone knows we’ve offended the Keaton family. Who would dare do business with us?”

Mom stared at him in disbelief.

“How can you blame Sadie? Blame Molly, that heartless girl! She deliberately made fools of us!”

Dad dragged a hand through his hair.

“What good does saying that do now? Have you reached her?”

Mom shook her head.

“Her phone won’t connect. She probably blocked me. I called her academic advisor, and they said

she’d already withdrawn from the university.”

Dad inhaled deeply, forcing down his anger.

“Check her flight information. I don’t care what it takes, we have to reach her. We can’t lose our partnership with the Keatons. She needs to beg Wade to restore it.”

Two months later, in Haventon, Bellmere, I stood on the apartment balcony watering my

succulents.

The early-winter sun was gentle. Wade wrapped his arms around me from behind and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“What are you looking at?”

I pointed to the busy street below.

“The view.”

He followed my gaze.

“Are you cold?”

“No.”

He kissed my cheek.

“Back home, the Farley company’s cash flow has collapsed.”

My hand stilled. Water rolled from the leaves into the soil.

“That fast?”

“Yes.”

Wade’s voice was even.

“They expanded recklessly to keep Sadie looking wealthy. Now that the Keatons have ended the partnership, the banks won’t lend to them either. They won’t survive next month.”

I.set down the watering can and turned to face him.

“Was that your doing?”

Wade didn’t deny it.

“It was ordinary business competition. I didn’t deliberately target them. Their company was rotten

from the inside.”

leaned into him and listened to his steady heartbeat.

“Let them deal with it. It has nothing to do with me anymore.”

Just then, the phone on the living room coffee table began to vibrate.

It was an unfamiliar international number.

I answered.

Mom’s exhausted, anxious voice came through the receiver.

“Molly, is that you? Mom finally found you.”
